I may have to get another mid range car before I eventually get something around the 20k mark.
Im thinking about something for around 8k.

What would you go for?

1. Exa turbo - nice and small, targa's a big plus.

2. Silvia - Im not keen to get an 8k silvia though, i dont want auto, and if Im getting a CA18 i'd rather just keep the exa

3. old shape Toyota Supra

I'd rather stick to Nissan.. is there anything else decent in this price range?

Personally, if i had 8k to play with and i kinda know ur situation, i mite look at that S13 in for sale section right now, seller is driftdamage

Yeh its auto and stuff, but for that price wouldnt care. You could get it converted to manual and still have change left over etc

If i recall, it was an Sr-DE?

I'll probably cop a whole lot of flaming for this but might I suggest the Mazda MX-6 Turbo....I owned one a few years ago and enjoyed it a whole lot more than my 180sx (admittedly a CA18det auto as opposed to the manual MX-6). You should have a few grand left over for mods after buying one as I have seen them go for less than $5000. They have a lot of torque, are really roomy and comfortable (massive boot) and turbo so you should be able to up the power fairly easily, front wheel drive might not be everyones cup of tea but I imagine this would be a lot better option than an Exa Turbo.

what year model of MX6 can you get for that price?
Im not keen on the look of them, but i assume they go ok

I'll most likely end up trying to find a cheaper S13

I paid a bit more for my MX6 ($6K), it was an 89 model with bodykit and mags but mechanically original and it was from a dealer. It was also a few years ago and I have seen 87ish to 90ish models go for under $5000 in the Trading Post recently....with a bodykit they look good I reckon but yeah standard they are pretty awful.

Car: silvia k's ca18det
the targa (n13) exa's never had a turbo variant from the factory. only the ca18de and ca16de... ca18det is a popular conversion though, but apparently there can be a number of heating problems.
n12 exa was the factory turbo one. awesome car i think :P
my silvia cost me 8k....ca18det, 5speed manual, a few extras..... had to fix up a couple of things, but all in all was good for 8k.....

it was the Maroon one from the runs... and yes it did go hard.

I would still go for the silvia, okay its auto, and sure its a CA, but it has climate control, and will probably feel better to drive than the exa. As for the old supra?! I have been in a NA one and it is a puss bucket!

check out the auctions, and keep a close eye on the forums!!
thats my two cents

I dont think the silvia would be good either for the budget you have for the car.

Exa - fwd + performance not too good .

Why stick with Nissan, there are other good options out there you should look at too. Look for a car which meets your expectations. Maybe RWD, Turbo, Good handling, Nice shape, good perfomance im thinking.

Also you want something reliable so that it doesn't take you alot longer to get the car you want later because the one you buy turns out to be a money pit and it takes you alot longer to get your dream car later.

Old shape Supra sounds good to me. Have seen some nice ones, looks abit supercarish.

Can you get one for $8000 turbo? (a good example)

Also you should get quotes on insurance on the cars your thinking of, because you dont want to be paying too much insurance every year too because the car is hard to insure.

MX6 sounds pretty good and playboys idea is good too.

Final tip, keep looking - trading post, parramatta road (to see the cars) car sales etc.. to get a better idea of what cars fit into your current budget
and which one out of them you like the most
