Post subject:  N15 CONVERSION

I got a pulsar 1997 n15 1.6ltr not sss, and was wondering what the price would be roughly to convert it to a ca18det?

Not trying to be rude or smart, but http://www.nissanexa.com/ is a really good place to ask, they would have more know how on this.

The Sr may be harder to fit, but in the mid-long term, u will be much better off then with the Ca, in terms of fuel, reliability and power.

Plus you'll actually have a chance in getting it legal, to do an engine swap the engine going into the car has to be the same year as the car or newer.

Oh ok, yeah i originally wanted to put in a sr20 but i got told that cause i have a 1.6 it would be cheaper to put in a ca18, so if i were to put in a sr20 how much would that cost?

Not sure what the cost would be,but don't forget to factor in a brake upgrade too.

You should sell your Pulsar. If you add the cost of the conversion to the sale price of your Pulsar, then you could probably buy a SR Silvia with all the good bits straight from the factory.

err you would be better off getting an sr20 powered pulsar 1st. Even still going from 1.6l to ca18det is going to be a stupid idea when the 2l stuff is all bolt in.

going from the top of my head you will need:

sr20det engine, ecu and loom
2l mounts, gearbox, drive shafts, clutch, flywheel, radiator (not sure), different aircon setup, cross member, front brakes and calipers, rear disc conversion etc etc etc

going ca18 will be harder if anything and require shit loads more custom work. The difference in $1000 or so price would be outweighed by all the shit you would need to collect. plus you have a more powerful car at the end of the day.

search on pulsar.org.au there are people who have gone from ga16de -> sr20det before.

The guys are right you cant fit the older engine legally.

The problem going from GA16 to SR20 is that everything is well and truely different un like the SSS models which can retain the loom and other SR parts.

If you get an N15 sss half cut you would be sweet but that will only be a DE.

If you want to put a DET into your GA16 car, you will be needing an SR20 pulsar loom, drive shafts, gear box and perhaps selectors just to mention a few bits.

If you really want a turbo pulsar id personanly be selling the GA16 car and buying either a SR20 powered car or an already converted car.

Its not a bad forum over there, Occasionally I spend some time there for info on customers cars,

I have just finished a turbo conversion on an N13 18le, the guys there were pretty helpful when it came time to select injectors and so on.

You will have to sign up similar to what you had to do here to make a post.
The DET GA16 has potential but I don't like the chances of it lasting as long as an SR20DET.
By the time you factor in a manifold, turbo, lines, management etc you could have done the SR swap for about the same price which in my oppinion would be the smart way to do it.

I have a mate who has just done exactly what you are thinking about, from GA16 to SR20. Ill ask him what his rough outlay has been so far.

The GA16 has plenty of potential.

Guys in the US get around 200kw atw with the standard bottom end. But everthing else is done to it...

Your looking at around 125-130kw atw starting point with the DE+T conversion on the GA...

You have to weight up the costs of both conversions...
