Has anyone on here done this conversion to their car (RB20DET motor into a silvia)?

Am looking at doing one as a project with a mate, but wanted to find out what it has cost people...

you should get a complete half cut with EVERYTHING you need for no more than $2000 you will need to use the crossmember and mounts its piss easy if you take your time and do it properly plus you will have the nice brakes to go on too! i would recommend sourcing an rb 25 turbo as the rb 20 swap is no better than an sr20 but with the bigger turbo it will be very very nice to drive. A six in a silvia? Very niiiiiiice. 8)

RB25 swap is good for power... yes... but as many people say it totally screws the weight distribution (55/45 as stock) and thats not good for the handling of the car.

There is a sil that comes into work for serviceing that has an RB25. He rekons it goes well. I drove it round the block and thought it actually handled better than my S13!

i have done the rb20 conversion in my s13 and it is better if you do buy a complete front cut as you do need to use quite a few parts off it.i find with my conversion that the weight difference in the car is negligable but the power difference if fantastic.go the conversion you wont be sorry.mine cost me about 6000 that was the half cut,the aftermarket ecu and installed, dynoed and tuned.

I am looking at doing this (rb20) at the moment but am still considering whether or not to.

Can someone tell me how much I should be paying for an s14 sr20det front cut with vvt. And also cost of s14 sr20det with vvt [engine/gearbox/electrics]

the costs go a little like this;

black top 180sr-20det(153kw) -$3500-4500.
s14 sr-20det(163kw)-$4500-5500.
s15 sr-20det(185kw)-$5500-6500.

give or take a little.

ok, with the cost of that, another whacky idea has bounced into my head. Rebuild my ca18de with forged internals and a manual box.

Options at the moment are RB20DET for 2k, save more to get a SR20DET either s13/s14. Or rebuild my ca. How much do forged pistons and conrods cost? Does anyone know how much it is to hone and bore and how much it is to get your crankshaft strengthened? I would also need custom manifolds, ca18det ecu, manual tailshaft, a turbo and a bigger head gasket :-?

without suspension mods, adding weight to the front of the car won't make it handle better...

With the right suspension setup pretty much anything will handle well, in the right conditions :>

With my setup, I haven't seen ANY car that can come close to keeping up through a few twisty roads. (Including a worked TT supra)... I can't see how adding at least another 100kg or so to the front would make it faster on the same roads.

jt - i wasn't rubbishing you it just upsets the cars natural balance of handling. Sure with the right suspension it will go well round corners but a lot of that has to do with the person driving aswell. It will be very front heavy and in a light car that can be a handful. But hey its just my opinion eh.

yeak qik that is true in what you said about the natural handling i noticed it when i first drove the car when i got it going it was then that i decided to get new whiteline suspension first just springs and shocks then i went silly and replaced all bushes camber and castor and swaybars cost a bit but i am glad that i did

Im with Dumhead on this, after seeing a silvia with lots of suspension loose alot of more powerful cars through some "fun" roads.

Power dont mean shit if u cant turn or brake.
