Last night I was minding my own business driving down the road to dominos pizza when a HWP officer does a quick U-turn and follows me. I sit at the red lights with the cops behind me wondering what they're going to get me for. I take off from the lights and turn round the corner and sure enough, the disco lights come on. The officer promptly tells me to open my bonnet and give him my licence.

First thing he points out was the pod air filter which he was going to write me a ticket for, and my bald rear tyres.

He starts fiddling with my TurboXS dual stage boost controller and is asking me if it is a blow off valve as he had no idea what to make of it, obviously I acted innocent and told him I bought it like that.

The defects arn't really that bad (bald tyres and pod filter) but he only gave me 3 days (2 of which are weekends) in which to clear it! That gives me limited time to look for a standard airbox. Don't suppose anyone has one lying around I could borrow for an SR20 180SX?

That bites... they should at least know that the hell they are doing, but i suppose its good that some of the HWP are n00bs, we can convince them stuff is normal :P

spl I have the stock airbox, used it to get my dads car past rego :P

As for the 3 days, mans thats BS of the HWP, I am pretty sure they have to give you 21 days to clear your defects, there is no way 3 days is enough... I would ring the RTA and complain !!!!

I got pulled over and warned about all my defectable items on my car (zorst, guages etc) and they said I have 30 days to fix them (but didn't give me a ticket or anything)... so its wierd.

You can call the RTA and get the defect time extended. When I go defected they gave me 1 month and i called them near the end of the month and they gave me an extra 2 weeks

Mayhem,

Have you got all the piping for the airbox aswell? Is it a turbo or non turbo airbox? Or are they the same?

Its from the SR20DET 180sx frontcut that I bought when I did the conversion.

Would have to check for the piping, but for my dads SR20DE, we just took off the pod and put the box on and rego = passed :)

That would defy the whole point, we do not want the orificer's to enjoy the ordeal

let us just settle on using a large glass bottle, filled with thumb-tacs and gun power. Ram it in the appropriate location, and spark it up.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the replies. I rang the RTA and they said they can't do jack sh!t and in the 35 years of the guy working there he said he's never heard of a single defect getting extended! They said I must call the police officer who issued the defect and get him to extend it.

At least I managed to source an airbox to put on, and will be getting new tyres on the rear today.

Just a point of interest for you people the only way you have to fix the defects is if you have a YELLOW or RED defect sticker attached to your car by a copper the as these require prove of repairs (pink slip) to be removed the sticker can is removed by the place carrying out the inspection once its passed so if its just a fine with no sticker, there is no need to fix it just pay the fine
