Post subject: | Another BMC question...nissan navara BMC? |
After yesterdays trackday I found myself running out of brakes sooner than Id like which is a little dissapointing. I have R33 GTST front and rear brakes, standard rubber lines on a 180sx with a BM44 (non abs) BMC, DBA 4000 rotors and project mu pads (B spec from memory). Although the Brake fluid was cheap and nasty and the lines are standard, I am considering upgrading the BMC at the same time as throwing on some braided lines (which ive had lying around for a while) and new fluid. non abs BM50s seem rather rare and I came across another option, it seems some nissan navara/pathfinders come with a BM57 (1 1/16 inch) with 3 ports that match non abs s13 line positions. My questions are; 1) has anyone ever seen one used in a s13/14 or r32/33? 2) Any idea if the valving for proportioning front/rear would be right for R33 GTST calipers (street car so external adjustable proportioning valves are out) 3) Is BM57 way to big? I dont want to lock the brakes every time I look at the stop pedal. 4) Should I just htfu and throw on braided lines, better fluid and then find out? (and also learn how to brake properly) Google isnt of great help, or the usual sites.... |

Yeah, they have a big piston but the bias could be anywhere. Personally, I wouldn't want to go anything bigger than a BM50 or you'll lose too much travel in the pedal and modulation will become difficult. The master isn't your issue anyway, it's the rubbish pads and possibly fluid. Pmu's higher end pads are great, but the low end ones are pretty ordinary and over priced. Pmu hc+ front pads penrite sin fluid install the braided lines It will be a hell of a lot nicer under brakes. You can legally install a prop valve provided you use hard lines, engine bay mounted, and it has a cover on it so it's not easily adjustable. If you want to go down that path use a gq patrol 1 inch master. |

Old thread but I have the same question and I am curious what you found out. Is the BM57 too big and does it ruin the bias? I have R33 GTST brakes on my R32 GTST skyline and the brake feel is average, I have new pads and new fluid but it just feels like I need to stomp on the pedal, felt much nicer with the original R32 GTST callipers to be honest. Tossing up whether to go BM50 or BM57, I'm thinking BM50 as it is from the R33 GTST which must have similar weight bias vs the GTR which has heavier rear diffs and AWD which would change the brake bias. What would you guys recommend? |

The different feel is probably the different pads. There is no difference in the piston size of the calipers so the feel shouldn't be significantly different. I ran r34 gtt callipers with the 32 bm44 master for years and it felt fine. 33gtst master is still a bm44 from memory. I could be wrong as I haven't really been that interested in cars for a few years. |

Yeah everyone has said that, regardless I want to improve the pedal feel, Bm57 sounds like it has different bias as it is for different cars (z32 and GTR). Perhaps BM50 would be better suited? |
