Does computer have to be remapped for this in sr20det? And also what sort of performancre gains could be expected from a bigger AFM?

yep, any change of MAF will need tuning.

It won't make a hell of a lot of difference, but if you have a bigger turbo, pod filter, cooler, etc. it'd make a fair bit.

Current Zoom has article on swapping Nissan airflow meters. Will post details of this later if no one beats me too it.

According to Zoom, the basic deal is that:

SR20 36mm
GTR 65mm
RB20/RB25 80mm
VG30DETT 80mm but more calibration for more airflow
VH44 90mm

New induction tubing required for any swap from SR stock AFM. Most importantly, with any change the ecu must either be reprogrammed, (which is one of the things a daughterboard is good for) or a full switch to aftermarket management. this is because the old AFM might give a 4v signal to the ecu at 200cfm, but the new airflow meter may give 3v as they are calibrated for a greater total amount of airflow. Some variables in the stock management need to be changed, and possibly some basic tuning to get the car to run smoothly again.

The joys of Unichip. Are you sure the R33 AFM is 80mm???

I think so, they mainlt talk about Rb20 but in one instance they say:
"decent flowing and non-restrictive 80mm airflow meters on RB20/RB25 engines"

Another handy thing. As RB20 and VG30 are the same diameter and shape, they are identified by the clour of the sticker on the square section.

RB20 has green sticker

VG30 has orange sticker

Interestingly they also mention that you can simply take the element from some AFM, stick them in a hollow piece of tube, and have the unit recalibrated.

The SR20 one is bigger than 36mm.. I'm pretty sure it's 50.
