Post subject:  Stereos - AMP cutting out help urgent!!!

oh guys heres the story
my amps cutting into protection mode
in and out of protection mode all the time
i asked a few people they say that the amp isnt powerful enough to handle the sub
(15") powered by a 400W amp
i got a hold of a 10" tonight and its still doing the same
is it cause the amps alredi previously screwed?
one guy suggested using 0 gauge wires cause im not getting enough power...
what do you guys think?
cheers!!!

try a larger ground wire. it should be as big, if not bigger (in gauge) than the positive wire. also make sure its grounded well, and firmly to the chassis. check all wiring to make sure everythig is secure.

also, if the amp has a bridging option, make sure its wired up as per that, and also that its enabled (if needs be)

or do what risking says :P

theres no way you will need 0 gauge wire.. what gauge are you running now ?

how many watts RMS is the sub and amp rated at ?

check ground connections and power connections

thanx guys jus went past fairfield car radios today to visit my mates and came to the conclusion that is battery terminals need to be replaced!
just some connection problems...
and if that dosent work il be lookin for a mono block
amp rated at 400rms and sub needs atleast 550W rms to run it efficiently
thanx but guys

I had this issue when connecting a plug to my sub for removal purposes....

Check that the sub is connected the right way around, make sure positive goes to positive, negative goes to negative (standard shit).

Also, with grounding wire, make it AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE, mine goes from amp to custom drilled hole right next to the amp, and my wiring is slightly larger than the 12v+ wire, so that any amplified issues can ground easily.

I have also heated up both chassis and grounding cable and completely filled the custom hole with solder to make sure the grounding has awesome termination.

I had an amplifier installed by *cough* Strathfield Car Radio *cough* one time, and it would heat up and cut out if the car wasn't running, I found out that the morons ran 2 4 guage wires from the boot to the battery, and plugged the positive and ground on directly to the battery, so the poor stocko battery was getting drained to the shitza every time the amp wanted a hit of juice, after cutting the dickheads's grounding wire and grounding directly under the amp (same as my 180sx), I never had this problem again.
