Hey,

I'm New to the forums and just wanted to introduce myself.

Bought an S13 a few months ago now and about to start some serious work on it.

I've got an rb26dett to go in it so I'm sure I'll be on here alot asking questions and such.

Does anyone know of or heard of anyone doing this engine conversion before?

Welcome to the forum.

RB conversions are nothing new, they've been done since the car was first released.
I'm not going to go into the reasons for why you shouldn't do it,but will say one thing: You're going to need to fabricate a custom sump and will need to pay a lot of attention to the cooling system.

Would you advise against the conversion?

To be honest,it depends on your application. If you're looking to do full-on drag racing, then go for it.

If it's a street or circuit car,or you're just doing it to be different, then I'd advise against it. There isn't a circuit in the country that needs the power of a worked RB26 in a silvia chassis, and re-engineering the car to make the engine fit,and sacrificing handling for the extra power that you don't need is more headache than it's worth.

Others will doubtless have opinions to the contrary, but ask for details of those that think it's a great idea. How much did it cost, how hard was it to engineer and have passed by an engineer? How does it deal with underbonnet temp and coolant management? How often do they break stuff behind the engine like gearboxes and driveshafts? and so on...

If your keen talk to Greg Boyle at Autosport Engineering. He has done a few and currently has an S15 with an RB26 in it that he tracks regularly.

Thanks justin and rusty1.

You have both been helpful.

I will research and ask some more before I commit.

I heard of rb26det... not too much about the twin... but you probably find somethings on here if you fish about, pretty sure there was a sticky about the single t rb26.

Btw, I've heard of wackier ones, like my boss fitting a sr20det into a r32, that much engineering in that, apparently the car was within 2kg balance all over, perferct drift mobile.

umm, huh??? You've heard of the RB26DET, but not the RB26DETT??

Personally, I love the idea of an RB26 in an S-Chassis car, but as Justin mentions, there are heaps of things to consider. There is a very nice and neat white S15/RB26 conversion thread by a member on ns.com if you want more detailed info of the build.
