Hey all,

I bought an S14 rolling shell and need some bits for it but I dont know much about the series differences. It has an s15 front so cant identidy it by the lights.

Its a March 1996 model, is this a series 1 or a series 2? Are there any parts which I cant interchange between series 1 and series 2? eg. ecu, motor etc- it has a loom in it already but no ecu so I can identify it by that either, I tried searching the net for info but cant find any...

Does anyone know where I can find info about the series differences??

Cheers
Kirk

that early in 96 should be a series 1.

one frame difference that may still give you a hint if it hasn't been butchered by the s15 front conversion is the radiator support. if it has factory-looking holes in it where the original lights would have needed access to get at the globes,it's a series 2. if the panel is/was originally solid,it's a series 1.

the fact that someone has put an s15 front on it already leans towards the car being a s1. the amount of hatred out there for the original look of the car being as strong as it is,it was likely changed purely for 'aesthetics'.

it's a series 1
i've got an 05/96 model

i think the body itself is pretty much identical

also, you said you've got a rolling shell right, what does it matter what ecu or what motor
you could easily get any motor/ecu/box combination and use it

ah sweet, yeah I'll check out the panel once I get the car delivered, also think its ADM as I couldnt find a coloured compliance plate.

I wanted to know what series it is as thas a loom in it already, and im not sure if any wiring changes apart from the engine loom is needed if I got a s1 engine/loom and it was a s2

Btw anyone know if there is much fucking about putting in an s13 sr20? could it be as easy as just an engine loom swap??

the S13 and 14 engine looms are quite different, because the chassis looms they plug into are different.

If they've gone to the trouble of changing the front,it's highly unlikely they wouldn't have changed the rear lights as well...

one other clue that isn't easily swapped is the instrument cluster.
the series one cluster's backing plate is plain black. the series 2's has a checkered pattern.
the plugs on the back are different,so they're not a drop in swap.

another, the power mirror switch is different shaped between models as well, although they're drop in.

one more,if it still has original radius rods in it,the series 2's have a pair of tabs for a cooling blade. the series 1's don't have them.

and lastly, all series 2's had airbags, only mid and top specs s1's did.
if it doesn't have abs,but has an airbag,it will be a series 2.

sweet thanks for the tips, it has s2 taillights but this may have been swapped. I'll check the cluster but if I remember correctly it was white backed as every interior part which could have been pulled off was painted white

It has abs, and I think it has an airbag but will confirm once I get it, I'll check the caster rods too, suspension was stock as a rock except for possible chopped springs, its going to need some work to get it looking respectable
