I've been a member of this site for over four years now.

It seems that, of late, the forums are quieter than ever.

Why?

At a guess, I would say that because the club never holds any events, and that it has suffered as a result.

I understand that sites like SAU and NS have their faults, but at least they are able to retain a high level of traffic - and more posts and discussion as a consequence.

I'd hate to see this site fade into nothing but thats what it seems like. Hell - have a look at the user stats. Of the Top 10 posters (who, by the away, account for more than 20% of all the posts on these forums)...who actively posts here anymore? About three or four of them.

I'd be interested to see what other members think. Maybe it is just my whacked out perception but it seems like this forum is turning into a graveyard.

i blame posers and cruisers for ruining any type of intelligent car community

Ahhh you are right Brendan, i believe this forum does have alot more knowledge and insight into actual relevant car information from most of the users and quality posts but i do think 'i want silvia' does have a point. this forum did seem alot more used and the members closer when there were meet ups and dyno days. Back in the days when there were the KK meet ups alot of the topics discussed in person were carried onto the forums through out the week and vice versa.

i would personally like to see more meet ups. even if not at KK's. but it was good to catch up with other members in person in this day and age of such internet socialisation.

Most of the technical stuff has probably been cover long ago as well, since the last silvia manufactured was in 2002, so a simple search will yield results, hence less postings/questions.

Yeah I can only agree, it has been a bit quiet lately...

I am guessing alot has to do with how Silvia and sports car owners in general are changing by way of family's i.e. TMB or branching off to other clubs as I know alot of members are now going places like JDMST, Circuit Club for most content and I still see Zei on SAU being that he is now in a Stagea.

Ever since joining along time ago I always found activity to be in high and low peaks, usually based around school holidays etc...

I definitely agree any event helps to draw in the crowd, but it does take alot of time and organisation to get things of the ground and I think alot of the Mods just don't have that time spare anymore.

Maybe we could suggest or organise our own meet/BBQ or what ever just like we used to at that Cataract Dam?

Although Im more of a lurker here nowdays compared to when I first joined, Silviansw still provides the most valuable and accurate information I have come across.

Horrah for people who actually know what they're talking about, not as mentioned before, posers. 8)

That would seem to be the case Whyte, however there was no BBQ to mark the anniversary this year round, nor a dyno day if I'm not mistaken.

I understand, these functions don't organise themselves and members are inconsistent (in that they say they'll attend and then don't show or back out when a request for money is made) however as others have stated, events do bring increased forum activity. Users need only look at past event threads to see large member input/contribution.

If it is a case of administration time resources being stretched, I'm in the midst of a job change that should allow more time. I'd be willing to put up my hand soon enough to help with event organisation.

The only problem I can see is that I'm located on the Central Coast and won't be able to attend mid-week meets if they were to eventuate etc. Also Silvialess again at this stage. The next one will be about 14 months away. :(

I dont think the amount of forum activity has much to do with whether we have activities.

I think its more to do with the concept of knowledge seeders vs knowledge leechers.

We used to have a ratio of something like 30% knowledge seeders - ie people who had half a brain and had the time and motivation to answer questions correctly. The remaining 70% did nothing but ask questions.

Thats ok. Most forums are like that.

The problem is that due to natural attrition (eg people moving on in their life, or their car preference, or amount of time available to answer the same questions over and over again etc), the number of knowledge seeders has dropped over the years to probably 5% (if that) and the number of knowledge leechers has increased to 95%, and not many of the knowledge leechers have stepped up to the plate to help seed knowledge.

Personally, I don't have the time to organise skidpan days or bbq's that people request, but dont attend. Dyno days are always popular but you can only have them so often before people get bored.
