hey guys,

i was down with my mechanic today trying to get a justjap sandwich plate on to install some gauges.

we tried getting the centre bolt onto the oil filter housing but the justjap bolt only fits on for 1.5 turns which is pretty much nothing. it sits almost flush with the centre of the sandwich plate itself.

i measured the length of the bolt on the oil filter housing and its 14mm. is this standard? i called SSS automotive to see if they had one and they said the one they had was 9.1mm :S

justjap told me that their part is standard and many people have gotten this onto sr20s so im thinking that my oil filter housing has been cut or modified somehow.

some pics to help get a better understanding (sorry about the crap quality):

the bolt sits pretty much flush with the centre of the sandwhich plate here

there wont be enough to bolt it onto the oil filter housing securely. it only fastens on for 1.5 turns.

the bolt on the housing here is 14mm. is this standard?

a bit of the thread broke while trying to remove the sandwich plate bolt so now its about 12mm :(

what should i do from here?

mine bolted on first go, no leaks no dramas :S

only issue i have found with those is the little aluminium bungs they give u for the sensor holes u dont use leak, have to get proper ones from pirtek or the like.

ah yeah, it would have been like 1.5 inches tall in total, half of that was the thread for the oil filter to screw onto...from memory anyway...

S14 are different to S13 oil filters. Also the thread is different
That could be a factor here.

Its to short for some reason??? (you can see in pic 2 its too short) maybe it broke with the oil filter or some thing when the engine was out (if it has been out) dont know.

It should just screw out and you can put another one in or if not you can replace the hole oilfilter housing plate (its only like 4 bolts and a gaskit)

solved the problem guys.

turns out the length of the bolt on my housing was standard. i went to SSS and got another one and its the same length.

seems to me that the justjap centre nipple is designed to only screw on for 1.5 to 2 turns (which doesnt seem safe to me).

so i paid a visit to Motorsport Connections where they provided me with the same thread size nipple but longer so it bolts onto the housing safely.

Image

only thing to note is that the thickness of the nipple has to be machined down on a lathe to the same thickness as the JustJap one to fit into the sandwich plate.

i should be picking the car up today or saturday so i'll post up if anything else goes wrong.

Glad you worked it out.

And the above is the reason people should buy real stuff not the just crap syuff.

And as for motorsport conections i was going to kill them last weekend.

why what did they do wrong?

ps the motorsport connections bolt also had to be shortened a little too.
