Well after an eventful weekend on 11th and 12th Nov I've got the vids up. It started on 11th Nov with a trip to Ebisu circuit for a 4 circuit day pass for 5000yen with 5 Japanese friends. It was good weather all the way but as soon as i got there the heavens opened big time. It poured down the rest of the day. 2 vids are on youtube, 1 incar and 1 outside. This was my first ever drift event so no laughing :lol: :lol:

Mine is the white 180 with the big hole in the front bar :wink:

It was all going too well and at 2pm in the afternoon it overheated. Turned out the water pump seal had gone and pee'd all its water out. The only snag was I was 200km from home but a mate lent me his flatbed truck and arranged for another friend to get a water pump for me. I got home at 8pm and then had to change the water pump and radiator for the race the next day.

For the race I missed the first qualifying as I was changing the water pump, but was fastest for the 2nd and 3rd qualifying so looking for a race win. A big hailstorm then landed and the race was cancelled :x After all the work and grief I was well up for a good race too. Oh well, maybe next time.

Awesome- what id give to be drifting on ebisu circuit- do they run events on the touge section or just for practise like drift land?

Events are run on all the sections, but we had a pass for the kita (north) course, school course, driftland and the skidpan car park. We could not use driftland as the fog was so thick you could not see!! The school course is too slow and tight to get good drifts so I stayed on the north course most of the time. To be honest I was a bit disapointed by Ebisu. It is pretty run down and neglected when you get there and the tracks had pot holes and badly maintained verges. Will be going back next year to watch D1 though :P maybe also a couple more open drift days for me.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the Nihonkai race vid sorted, its too long for youtube right now. My first vid of racing in the torential rain and hail!

this one got dug up! The incar vid was taken in maybe the second session of the day. As I've spent 20 years circuit racing you never ever let go of the wheel and I was trying to drift using the same style. Later on I sussed you just let go of the wheel and let it find its own centre. I'm not used to looking of the side window :lol: :lol: I keep practicing on the way to work on wet roads and am slowly getting the hang of it.

I've ordered a Excedy R metal lightweight 3 puck race clutch and cover last Thursday, once I get that installed the drift season licks off again!

That looks like an excellent fun bit of track. You seemed to be backing off just where the track got a little technical though

Using the castor to let the wheels track works well up to a point.
But unless you are letting the wheel counter steer fast it's usually better to try and keep a good hold of it most of the time.
For example:
1) Intiate
2) Let go of wheel and let it twirl to lock as the car breaks traction (i usually let it slip between both of my hands or let it slip through one hand while i try and trace the wheels path with my second)
3) When it gets to where you want it hold the wheel with both hands again and adjust as nessessary.
4) Shuffle the wheel back to centre as you end the drift, or alternatively let it twirl to lock in the other direction if you are transitioning or fishtailing.

That's the basics of it, there is more to it then that.
Some very good drifters basically never let go of the wheel at all.
At worst most good drifters only let the wheel go when they want it to swing to lock very quickly.
Alot of noobs do let it spin freely alot of the time because it's easy to start off with, very imprecise though.
Just my 2c, but might help you in future :).
