Hey Everyone,

My Gun glub, the Auburn Shooting Academy is having their annual open day on the 24th of October.

Come down and try out the sport of pistol shooting or just find out for yourself just how different the real thing is to what you see in the movies.

If you've never shot before an open day is the cheapest way to get a taste of what our sport is like without going through the full licensing process.

Doors open at 10am,close at 4pm.

Packages start at $5!

All participants must wear enclosed footwear and bring photo ID with them.
All safety equipment will be supplied and all handling and shooting of firearms will be in a one-on-one arrangement to help you to get the best scores, have the most fun and have the safest experience that you can.

Address and phone number:
16-18 Byrne Street, Auburn NSW 2144 Australia
Phone: (02) 9737 9099

More information can be found here: http://www.shootingacademy.com/index.htm

I'll be on range for most of the day, most likely instructing on one of the larger semi-automatics.
Hope to see you there!

Justin...

I'm sure they are.

All the club pistols were cleaned by the RO's and a few members last night so they're nice and shiny for tomorrow.

No worries mate, hope to see you there.

My advice to anyone thinking of coming along is to get there as early as possible to beat the rush. these things can get pretty busy,to give you an idea,we had 633 people turn up to shoot two years ago...
oh,and don't bother with air pistols or .22's...

Was heaps of fun! My girlfriend and I went, we had pretty much never used firearms before (she has only ever shot an air rifle once, I'm the same).

We both started out on .38 reloads because we got to skip the queue that way!

She loved it, I loved it (although I'm shit).

That was fun. Thanks Justin. It is over 30 years since I last handled a gun.

Big muzzle flashes and bangs from the Magnum with factory ammo but not as much kick as I expected. Apart from a bullseye and a 9 it was probably the worst accuracy of all the guns I tried. I did much better when I tried it with reloads and had worked out which way it pulls (to the right).

I was very happy with 6 out of 10 bullseyes, 3 9s and an 8 with the 22 automatic. Very easy gun to shoot.

The Glock was okay but it managed to mis-eject one spent cartridge and jammed the slide. If I was a cop and needed the gun in anger that could have been a worry. The older, military-style automatic felt better but as my first gun of the day accuracy wasn't great.

I'll have to do this again some time and at some longer ranges.

PS: I was very amused when Csila you were on the .22s.

I'm glad you both enjoyed the day.

Accuracy comes with practice. Also statistically, women shoot better than men, especially in the initial stages. less ego getting in the way,and they tend to pay more attention to technical instruction than men do.

I was actually relieved to be on the .22 range this year. Which pistol the RO's were issued with was by random draw out of a box this year to cut down on whining. Being as I had a .357 magnum factory revolver last year, had another in the bay next to me,and the shotgun on my other side,I was pretty weary from the noise and blast by 4pm that time.
this time around after handling the little rimfires for 6hrs straight my hearing and nerves were still intact.

If you're both interested, you might want to consider joining the club,or at least booking a private session sometime to have another go.
Getting a license is a bit of work initially, but once you have one,the requirements to keep it aren't hard to meet. remain a financial member of a club, attend 6 times, and shoot four competitive shoots within a 12mth period. that's it. a longarms license is even easier.
Pm me if you have any questions or want to discuss it further.

Our open days are only once a year so it'll be 12mths before the next one...

never mind mate, there's always next year,or a private session sometime sooner if you're still keen to have a crack at it.
