Track driving and street driving are two different things, with two different focuses (focii?), and two different flavours of fun. One does not rule the other out.

I used to eat vanilla ice cream exclusively. Then I got on to Cookies & Cream. While Cookies & Cream is far tastier, it doesn't mean I don't eat vanilla anymore because its gone from being delicious to being horrible. It still has the same flavour I traditionally liked.

I like track work. It doesn't mean that I don't like hillclimbs. That I've done hill climbs doesn't mean I don't like playing on a skidpan. Playing on a skidpan doesn't mean I don't like driving on the street. Driving on the street doesn't mean I don't enjoy playing Gran Turismo on a game console.

My memory is just fine. I got out of the incident unscathed for the same reason I get out of almost every incident I've encountered unscathed; I drive to the conditions, which means I leave more in reserve on the street. It doesn't mean I'm immune to mistakes, but it generally means it doesn't happen to me as regularly nor is my "cost of failure" as severe.

Going for a cruise doesn't mean having to go flat stick. In fact, I always advise against it. You can just enjoy your car at five to eight tenths on the street on a different style of hard-top. Doing a track day at less than flat-out pace, on the other hand, is a waste of time unless you're endurance racing.

Also, how often does SilNSW run skidpan days etc vs the frequency of the street drives of yore? While you give the reasoning for the change of focus, which I understand, there is less "action" than there used to be....so it doesn't disprove my point.

Aside from the skidpan days arranged recently, for a long time the only meets this forum had were at Krispy Kreme or the annual BBQ. I'm really happy that Silvia NSW is bringing driving back into the curriculum, and I'd go to the events if I didn't have commitments at the time, but I guess I just miss what was.

Well last night was a good night everyone was responisble and even the cops came but we explained to them what we were doing and even ask them to stick around as we werent doing anything illegal if they didnt believe us and they were understanding :) even with the 30 odd cars in a carpark no trouble at all except the one when a red p plater in a commodore came and tried to impress us (we did not know him) doing burnouts and trying to run us overs  after that we left as we knew he was gonna get us in trouble but as i said when i organised this meet was i will not tolerate any stupid behaviour and idiots would be ask to leave and again my faith in the modified car scene was reassured when everyone abide by the 3 rules of the night no burnouts, no excessivly loud doof doof music and no excessive speeding/dangerous driving

Was an awsome night. Thanks for organising melvin Highlights of the night where meeting at Macca's at rose hill, Filling the car park , the drive down to silverwater, we unfortantly a fellow JDMST member turned a corner and mounted the medium strip, seeing this we where like WTF happened, He wasnt doing anything silly he just didnt see the strip, Me and some others went back to check on him and this where most of the group got lost but other than that we where all good and and met up at silverwater sooner or later.

As we arrived, we where greated by a few others that where all ready there, we sat and talked meet new people had a good time. the cops decided to pay us a visit, we joked around talked with them for about 20 mins then they decided to leave :) top people they where , some of the nice ones i guess. Followed by that, Serial Killa while trying to impress the chicks i imagined came flying down the hill from the bridge , bahaha nearly lost it :P . Alot of talk about the suzuki's that decided to show up :D and more talk about the cars with damage down one side of thier cars ;)

Shame about the Commodore, he actually come around a few times, nearly running over a few members. He then proceeded to come back to cut sik, but failed when he mounted a Gutter he then tried again and failed and left. We quikly disbursed cuase we knew what was going to happen , we left in groups going our seperate ways, me and Sil XTC and his mates left for the hills area, and said our good buys and called it a night.

Some Pics I Got :)
