hey all,

as a few of you know I was thinking of selling my 180sx for a r32 gtst, but after driving one I'm not so sure. It felt like it lacked alot against my 180sx, they both have similar mods being: exhaust, fmic, pod, uprated suspension. The main difference being that the gtst was running 13psi and my 180sx is running 10psi, and the fmic on mine is 600x300x75 by looks the gtst was about 600x600x50.

The skyline came on boost around 4,000rpm, and seemed to want to still spool up after this point, where-as my 180sx comes on boost strong at 3,000rpm on the full 10psi. I didn't really have anywhere to really open it up to redline in everygear to see what it does up high in the rev range but it just seemed really lacking.

is that the same sort of experiences you guys have had or does it sound like this one had issues, I'm thinking maybe the front-mount and exhaust wasn't helping it at all ??

I found that R32s are very slow :)

I beat one in a drag with my n/a Silvia, and I've been in a couple of 32's that just didn't seem very quick.

i used to have a r32gtst. i traded it in for my 180sx :) it should be pretty responsive, so if it's boosting so late, it might be due to a bigger turbo, or a leak somewhere, and that intercooler, 600x600....im sure the nose of a r32 isnt even that thick....but one thing that skylines have over others is the sound, intoxicating really....

you will need to rev out the Rb20 out to redline to really get her going at the pace she is good for. More peaky in terms of power delivery, more smoother too. Sr will feel more grunty hands down.

like I said it was only a guess....but it looked to be like a square, half of the IC was like up under the bit of the bar that is solid

Shut up bitch. Remind me to punch you in the head next time i see you.

If it's not boosting til 4k then it'd want to have a big arse turbo, funnily enough similar to mine :) And it will make power to redline as long as you can get the fuel into the engine.

Basically comes down to what you want, r32 is a bit of a tourer, sil is a bit of a racer. Both can be made to go fairly quickly but the r32 is hauling around an extra 200kgs so mod for mod they are slower. rb20 also suffer from a lack of midrange torque mainly due to the short stroke of the 2lt 6.

But at the end of the day the rb will always sound nicer than an sr :D

I used to own a R32 GTST
Great fun, had decent suspension, full exh/filter, no HICAS :)
Keep in mind a SR20 S13/180sx will generally outperform a GTST in terms of straight line and handling.
What I liked about the GTSt was the look, the sound of the RB20, and the interior over the S13s. Plus its a Skyline :D

ive been in 2, one was a GTS4 , i think thats what there called?....pretty quick in my opinion, R32's IMO look "tough" there less refined....the other was a normal GTST witch was a rocket, you could do on the spot burnouts without moving an inch

basically there better looking inside and more tougher looking outside.

if you want my advice, if your 180sx is SR20turbo and theres no problems with it, keep it ..........unless, you want to do a RB30 twin cam or GTR engine. if not dont bother honestly.....you have a good car , be happy with it.

Hehehe, thought you'd like that :P

I haven't been in your car since the turbo upgrade, probably cos I'm still scared of how little traction it had with the stock turbo! :D

Don't worry mate, more lag equals more traction :)

My old R32 used to get power at the wheels heaps easily.
I could easily spin the wheels on it, where as on my S13 that doesn't seem to happen.
Although, the R32 had shit tyres on it and I hooned that thing pretty hard (probably why I ended up smashing it) :D

I just sold my R32 recently. it had
HKS FMIC
Wheels by Work, light weights
Recaro drivers seat
Air filter (K&N)
turbo back 3: exhaust system
koni shocks, springs, sway bars, strut brace
DBA 4000's all round
white 93 Type M

It was the best car I've had yet. people teased it alot for being a boat, but I didn't car. I thought it went well, it only put out 160 at the rears on 14PSI but I think the turbo was on the way out.

the next mod would have been a new turbo and ECU but decided to move on and let someone else have the fun.

they are really good cars and drive nicely. drive a few then make a decision.
