nar they dont have the B4 badge!!! they dont even have a GT badge!!!!.. you can only tell the difference between the normal crap ones and the GT by the bonnet scoop, lower profile tyres and bigger brakes, its also lower!!
:)

If I needed a four door car, I would have waited for the manual Liberty GT to come out. Of all the affordable mid-sized cars, its the only one that has what I want (plenty of power, room to tune, excellent grip, good handling, and powers the rear wheels).

For the cost of an optioned out Liberty GT, the only rear-driving competitors I could buy would be an entry model BMW 318i or Mercedes C200K with maybe one or two options, that wouldn't go anywhere near as hard or be as comfortable.

Its a very nice car. Looks pretty classy, great interior, good safety and gadget level, goes well enough, and there are plenty of mods out there if I ever decide to go down that route. The only sedans I'd consider over it would be the BMW 546i / M5 (when its due out, and that's a guess of the name from the engine that's meant to go into it), the AMG E55, or the Audi RS6.

They renamed the B4 because of the bad reputation the twin turbos got for having a massive torque hole half way in the rev range. Personally, I would have brought the "RS Turbo" name back in instead. That car had cred, so its not a major problem. I suppose that GT sounds classier than RS though.

The new GT runs a single turbo, which provides a much smoother torque curve, reduces complexity, etc. I think its a twin scroll or variable vane or something for better low RPM response and top end power compromise. Plus various exhaust / valve timing stuff etc. The reviews say it is a much better engine than the B4's.

Weren't the B4's 206kw though as opposed to the GT's 180kw?

I personally prefer the look of the B4 better.

Which is the same type of brakes that the M3 has :)

The GT has been detuned, both because of the fuel and because of the gearbox.

Word is that the manual GT will have the 206kW. Hence why I'd wait for it.

I always thought B4 was sort of it's nick name, like the H6 version of the Outback, or S13.

or how there's an XT forester, they actual name is different, it's just as designation, though i'm often wrong :P

After a quick looka round the B4 is the same thing, but Japanese version, also called the Legacy instead, or maybe it's a different car, but that's the idea i got in my 5 second research :P

The Legacy name is for JDM and a other few markets. I'm not sure why Australia had the name changed (I can't remember if someone had already trademarked it, like the issue Toyota had with the Highlander / Kluger, or because of some cultural thing).

The B4 badge was the top-spec version of the previous generation of Legacy / Liberty. Before that, it was the RS Turbo (which is almost back when they rallied the thing). The current top-spec one is called a GT (because of the image problem I mentioned earlier, apparently). These are all official marketing names, not just internal codes or nicknames.

The "H6" models were an official marketing designation for the Outback that ran the 3.0L boxer 6. It wore H6 badges (on the front grille definitely, and perhaps on the back too). In the new lineup, its been renamed to 3.0R.

H6 goes as far back as the XT, mr XT6 has a fat H6 stamped on the spider intake manifold.

also every subaru is Boxerised,

and on the back of the outbacks they say H6.30R or some ghey shite

I am fairly certain they changed the name from legacy to liberty out of repect to the Australian Legacy foundation for fallen soliders

I have driven a 2.5 liberty, Forester and a Outback. Nice cars but the gearshift feels like a screwdriver in a bucket of bolts.
