Hey guys,

the woman has wanted one of these for ages now, and I know of one that a guy from work has that needs an engine rebuild (but it's still running).

He only paid $1500 for it and has simnce bought a new Magna, so i reckon I could get it for $1000.

What engines can be put into one without too much hassle. What about the S13 SR20DET which I have a spare one of at the moment....?

Cheers guys.

Yeah cheap is the go.

I know they had a Rb20DEt in NICS form in Japan, and a VG20/30DE(T) in Oz.

RB25DE might be a good choice. What are the power torque specs from factory if you can remember off hand?

And how much do they go for?

Rb25DE (R32, R33)

142kw @ 6400rpm

231nm @ 4800rpm

The Rb25 is a bit of a slug down low in the R33, especially in the wrong gear, but in the lighter shell of the z31, id say it would be quite nippy.

Id say an Rb25 would be cheap as the RB20-T, if not even cheaper.

Nippy is the word.

Just has to be at least as fast as my old SR20DE silvia. No huge acceleration but enough poke to drive around effortlessly and be able to overtake.

Go for the VG30DETT. You'll want more displacement for the somewhat heavier car IMO.

If you have a spare sr lying around then it'd be the cheapest option i reckon. If it has a gear box anyway.

You may need to find out if any of the stock nissan engine mounts and stuff can be used and whether a custom tail shaft is needed and a custom dump/front pipe and intercooler pipes would be needed but that would be about it on the mechanical side.

Only issue i can see with any of the swaps mentioned is if you can get the z31 dash working with the sr ecu outputs and engine sensors.

What about a 2J like the 240 in ZOOM Magazine? 8)

But I'll imagine that's quite expensive. :(

THanks guys but this is a mild upgrade. It won't take much to beat a VG30E which originally had 124kw but now is 15 years old wit a sticking valve. I'm still a fan of the RB25DE, should rev out a lot better and probably out torque the 3L down low too.

This won't until next year at the earliest.

In the meantime I'm having enough trouble just trying to get my 180 back on the road.
