My mate is looking to get cams and cam gears installed at Hills Motorsport, he has been told that they can tune the ecu without an addon board. I never thought this was possible? Can anyone confirm or deny this? Hills have tuned his brothers GTR well (280 4wkws) so he is inclined to believe them

some ECU's can be re-tuned without the need for daugher board, or aftermarket ecu.

R32 GTR ecu's are a good example.

alot of the time though, its more easy to just use aftermarket setups.

rb's and ca's are a completley different kettle of fish to an sr20

After talking to them in the past I'd be inclined to say that they don't know what they're talking about, but maybe they have some tricks.
They might just be talking up tuning as in "tune up" or just playing with the timing a bit.

For the $100 it costs for a daughterboard it's not exactly expensive compared to the tuning costs anyway.

I'm pretty sure hills don't have a dual chip real time emulator for the SR20 either, so even with a daughterboard they wouldn't be able to tune it.
