How much do you think is a reasonable price for a 1994 Toyota Supra SZ-R Manual?

Does anyone know of any weaknesses in the 2JZ-GE? I've read that the 2JZ-GTE is very strong but is the GE version the same internally?

Cheers

not having turbos makes it a lot stronger :)

they're not the "same" internally, but are still a strong engine from what I've seen.

You'll be surprised how stupidly expensive it is to insure even n/a Supras though!

i have heard, that the GE engine can handle up to 600hp internally if you decide to turbo it.

this was off an american site, their dynos seem to read a bit high though.

yeah, Just Cars quoted me $3700 + $1600 excess, and Famous quoted me "less than $3000".

Thats ok I think considering I'm only 19(and given its an import)

the sz-r's are still a fun car to drive! - if a little crammed..

the one I took for a spin was standard with the exception of a hks super drager system, guess its the same as a Q's tho.. after a while you wish you had an rz.

for a good condition sz-r = low 20's.

No, not having turbo's makes them last longer because they dont blow up as often :D

I've only had a quick little fiddle around in one that was an auto and performance from it wasnt that exciting, its good but its not the TT *BOOM* "ohhhh faaaaARRKKKKKK!!"
Handles nice, (well it would want to considering how heavy it is) and looks real pretty, I think theres probably more room in my S13 than inside the Supi, which also incendently went quicker. But hey :)
Sticking in a 2JZ-GTE cant be that hard, but I can imagine it being pretty expensive, engines go for about 7-8k for a half cut.

Looking at one for my mum actually (honest!) as she was interested in one and most seem to run for about 22-32k depending on the year and condition. I think theyre good value really, but my dad isnt so convinced and we may have found a middle ground in the TT Soarer with the 2JZ-GTE in it instead of the 'boat anchor' that most of them have.
However, they do seem to be a rare animal.

Insurance on them seems to be very exorbitant, mostly because nothing goes faster in a parking lot than a Supra, except maybe a WRX with the keys still in it and a window down.
Sadly Ive known a few people to loose theirs that way :(

yeah, they're 0-100km/h times are high 6's (HPI review) and they got about 165kW.

I'm aiming to pick up a 1994 SZ-R for $22k.... anymore and I'll have to start pimping Zei

What you mean boat anchor? The 1JZGTE that most have is a pretty sweet motor and even the 'slow' 1UZFE V8 is good to. There are some rare 2JZGE ones around but like you'd want one of them. My mates 1991 TT auto was about $15k a year or two ago. I'd drive one :D
