The Evo VIII is going to be $61K.

While the R32 is a "nicer" car (in terms of finish, ride, comfort, features, class, etc) the Evo is still faster.......

Its a pretty awesome car, I must admit. I did quite like it when I saw it at the Motor Show.

I got the info from CarPoint

And now, the price. Sit down because performance of this calibre is not cheap. We're talking $61,990 for a Lancer EVO VIII plus on road costs and insurance -- which will cost a pretty penny thanks to the exclusivity and performance of the EVO, and also its appeal to thieves. Still, when you look at the alternatives, the price quickly becomes palatable. (See Competitors for more).

The guy must make a living reviewing Excels. $62K for a car that will easily kill an STi (which is considered a good buy at $55K) and probably keep up with a Lotus Exige (which has an even more spartan interior, at $100K) isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks Alan, I wonder what the chances of a test drive are?
Also wonder what the insurance on these babies are?

The insurance on an Evo VIII will probably make an STi look affordable.

The Evo VIII we're getting won't have the 6 speed 'box, but I believe that's the only major difference. Apparently the engine makes a shitload of torque anyway, so missing a gear isn't as much of an issue.

Rumours are that Mitsubishi Australia is considering following Mitsubishi Britain's lead with a rather nice first service.

Quote:
As the most important market to Mitsubishi after Japan, we're rather lucky here in the UK - for not only do we get the Evo VIII a whole year ahead of the rest of Europe, but we also get the FQ-300. The standard Evo is imported from Japan, put through Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) by Mitsubishi (it's effectively a grey import), and finally uprated by Mitsubishi Ralliart Europe in Rugby. Until last year, Ralliart was an external division, but following its move in-house to Mitsubishi the modifications are now fully sanctioned.

Mitsubishi are somewhat secretive about the exact modifications, but they include the addition of several HKS tuning parts - an air filter, an upgraded intercooler and piping, and the most obvious - the HKS Drager exhaust, fitted from the cat back and reminiscent of the channel tunnel emerging below the rear bumper. This allows the turbo to spin up quicker and hold boost for longer. As to whether the ECU is remapped is uncertain, but the above modifications alone should be adequate to increase the power by 24+ bhp over the standard car's quoted 276.

I can't find the article for the Australian Evo VIII, but I remember seeing the comment from RalliArt boss saying, "If we don't do it, someone else will" (to the effect that third parties probably wouldn't do it right). You buy the car in its low-volume import trim, drive it around, and at first service they fit the parts (I remember the article saying it was going to be an exhaust and ECU remapping).

I could be remembering wrong, of course, since Google nor Yahoo! are not coming up with anything.

I read that in MOTOR, first service exhaust and ECU.
I will dig it up and find the exact details of power and specs.

In drive thate had a test between the STi and the Evo. This years 100 are already sold, so you will have to wait until 2005.

The indicator is on the worng side of the steering wheel. Aus would not warrant the side impact test from japan, but they would the europe tests. Mitsubishi did not want to send out some evo's to smash up, so we are getting the european version, apperantly you can chage it for $500.

196Kw if i can remember correctly, also it has a lot more torque a lot earlier in the rev range then the Sti.

The STi was advertised at doing 0-100 at 5.5 seconds and the Evo was 6.1. In the test they evo kept on smashing the STi. Sounds like Mitsubishi is being quite conserative with its advertising.
