I went to Unigroup just after they started many years ago and they did an OK job.... wasnt overly impressed. 6 years on, he has his own 2wd dyno, does a lot of tuning now and really understands what he is doing..... especially with the SR's and NIStune software.

Just to compare, I went to a place called Dynamic Racing Concepts in Greenacre last year and they were TOTAL CRAP and had no idea, Happy to take my money though! There were boost pressure issues and I had to tell him what to check and how to test things. Totally basic stuff, he had no idea. I was using NIStune software on 12psi he got me 119kws at best and drove like crap..... what the!!!! I got it going much better myself after i fiddled with it on the road.

After a UNIgroup tune yesterday, i now have 161kws @ 4 wheels on just 12psi and its awesome all through the rev range. We expect an easy jump into the 170+ kws when i replace the problem boost control. All this with just a few S15 upgrades and standard intercooler still in use.

All this was done via a PLMS ECU daughterboard and NIStune software. Highly recommended!! You can get them both for $400. Nothing comes close to this gear, for the price especially.

Like with PLMS and Matt with the NIStune, i trialled some of their early gear years ago and it was pretty good then, but great now. I even have a 4 map switcher to change maps on the fly depending on weather or driving conditions.... how cool is that. And all this is cheap compared to anything else out there. These guys love what they do and are happy to talk you through any technical or set up issue you may not understand. They have come a long way - cant rate them high enough.

I know it sounds like a sales pitch, but i dont know them personally and i am not associated with them.... just a consumer. I was a mechanic many moons ago and appreciate the good guys out there and cant stand the dodgy ones who are just happy to take your money off you - like Dynamic Racing Concepts.

Here ends the sermon!!

The nistune boards are significantly more expensive than the S13 ones, which would have a bearing on their popularity

add to that the easy availability of power fc's,and it's not hard to see why S15's will be going for that option more often...

More details?

Sources, limitations, comparisons with PowerFC, functions etc...

I'm pretty keen to piss off my micro-guess and replace it with something better at the same time I go for turbo/cams/injectors (when I get round to that) so I wouldnt mind a bit more detail on options.

I have a Nistune daughterboard in both my cars. Both run flawlessly and make ~230rwkw.

I reckon nistune is brilliant.

Coldstart is like factory
Cruise is like factory

Basically it allows you to modify all the ECU parameters in the same fashion that a PFC does. The only downsides I can see is that install is a bit fiddly, and you don't get a pretty screen. Neither of which I care about.

Generally it is easier to get a Nistune car to be nice to drive than it is to get any other type of ECU to be nice to drive
