Friend said its handling is better than 180sx, cornering is better.
0-100 is faster(I agree with this one ).

Does anyone have experience?

which model?

turbo ones go ok.
n/a ones are abit slow in a straight line, go great in corners, but the stocko 14s on early model sw20s need upgrading and the factory suspension is a little boaty... but what factory car isnt?

I've driven all three models,AW11,SW20 and ZZW30.

handling out of the box is pretty good, better than silvias to be sure.
as has already been said, turbocharged Sw20's are pretty quick std.
the AW11 S/c model is also fairly quick, but the ZZW30's aren't really, seeing that they share their engine with the ZZE122 corolla. add in the pathetic sequential gearbox oz-spec cars run,and the latest version isn't worth looking at unless you plan to invest a lot of cash into the build.

it all depends on what you're after really. they have potential to be sure, but if you're not able to do it yourself,or have a limited budget, you're better off with the nissan,as MR2's of ALL models are NOT fun to work on,and parts are limited in availability in comparison.

clutch jobs are twice as expensive for one example,as the entire driveline has to be removed, where a silvia only has to drop it's gearbox out.

if you want a really quick MR2 my brother is selling his for $21, 500, engine has been fully rebuilt and it capable of 300kw at the wheels, as for handelling they definantly stick to the road, but if you take a corner wrong, it is alot harder to get it back then say an silvia.

I've driven an SW20 around a bit. I'm really not fond of the MR orientation, don't have any faith in what i'm doing. You have to be very smooth, the steering lends itself to this though as it's quite heavy. The weight distribution is something like 48/52 with the SW, but it feels a lot worse than that. With some aftermarket suspension components i imagine everything would improve nicely, but stock form i'm not a fan. I've passengered in a few AW11s and i'd opt for one of them over the SW purely on driving experience, I like the looks better too.

They're definatly not an amature drivers' car, you have to know what you're doing. An S series platform allows for some mistakes to be made, and some recovery when shit goes wrong, MR2s aren't so nice.

They'll slide fine in the wet too :) , probably in the dry also if it's tubro.

In the Drift Bible, driven by the Drift King himself, the MR2 Sw20 is the only car that spins out...

Like magnet said, the MR configuration requires alot of attention and understanding.

I've owned an s13 and i've had the SW20 for a few yrs now. Never maxed stick them so i cant really compare the handling...

The only thing i can say is you can root in the S13...

you can root in a AW MR2...

... so how does an MR2 compare to a turbo SR20, most people agree they handle better but are slower. Of course any ammount of modification to either will tip the balance.

I owned a AW11 - 4age MR2 for a few years. Probably where I taught myself to drive. My MR2 was heavily modified in terms of suspension, so no real comparison, however it stuck like glue and I loved it.

The MR configuration takes some getting used to, when the back end comes unstuck - its hard to control, the back end will whip around on you before you can blink.

the 4age likes to rev its tits off, but is pretty underpowered. you're not going to win any traffic light drags in this one.

However, I would argue that the AW11 is definitely a drivers car. Its a lot of fun, and is a lot more then just pushing the accelerator.

Working on MR2's is a bitch, no other way to describe it. Nearly everything has to be done from underneith. If you're going to get a workshop to work on it, labour costs and parts will be more expensive.

... today, I still wish I had my AW11 (as a second car)

Lol, are you like, half a metre tall?

Driven an n/a s13, seems more predictable compared to the aw11.

i have driven the sw20 & aw11.... handling is good, most mr cars are supposed to have handling. straigh line speed the aw11 will get left for crap by s13 depending on mods to both obviously, the sw20 would be a different story though
