Post subject:  Custom car Panelbeater?

Hi all,

I'll be very soon looking to get my project car's bodywork done.

I need to find someone who isn't afraid of doing PROPER rust repairs, some body modification (as in guard enlargement, door opening spot welding, and floor re-inforcement),and can apply a custom two-tone paint scheme well.
experience with fibreglass is also a must.

I'm not looking for the cheapest guy in town, just someone who will do the job the way I ask for it,to the standard I ask for,and I'm willing to pay appropriately. I want this car done right, the first time.

if anyone can recommend me someone to approach for the above,it'd be appreciated.
doesn't have to be in Sydney, although that's preferred.

Cheers.

I thought I already replied to this with Bonnyrigg Smash? Meh

They are good. Did a lot of the work on my dad's '29 Buick and as you can imagine, that's mostly very custom work :o

Car is immaculate

So I recommend them (Unless you've found someone already)

you did,on the other forum I was banned from for saying how I feel about a local importer,so I don't have those details anymore.

thanks all for the suggestions so far. will follow them up soon when I get a chance to get the car onto a trailer and take it around.

buzzme,your link doesn't work.

please bear in mind I'm after people who can do proper fibreglass and STEEL bodywork mods, not just resprays in hektik colours.

pretty much anywhere can throw five coats of candy blue over the whole car.
I need someone who can fabricate and weld up flared guards without buckling the quarter panels, can replace a rusted out wheel arch/sill edge from scratch, can properly fit and finish fibreglass panels, and can paint an
accurate two tone paint scheme from photos.

I'll most likely end up doing most of the steel welding and rust repairs myself, but there will still be a lot of fiddly fitting and straightening work.

my car is an old 80's model that's not even remotely straight in the panels, has a bit of rust, and is getting altered in a major way. this isn't a rub back,high-fill,and paint on kind of job.

If you KNOW someone who can do all of the above, please let me know.

Custom body works did alot of panel work on my rx3 and not just a candy colour infact i got a standard colour spray(subaru deep forest green)
he weleded all the holes in my engine bay,cut and welded new panels in for the rusted parts, did alot of exstensive body work and thats what makes them number one..so i tried to help you out and your sarcasm doesnt help i was just trying to show you examples of how good their panel work and spray jobs are...not everyone can spray well either..
some have to cut and polish and buff to get all their bodgy runs out...

there wasn't any sarcasm there mate. I appreciate any leads people can give me for finding someone suitable for the job.

most show cars are not as custom as their owners like to think. the fact is that many start out with a perfect late-model body, and just add-off the shelf bits, then spray the lot in a different colour. that's not exactly custom, and far from what I need.

you didn't give me links to any photos of your rotary, and the link to their website timed out. I had a look at the ferarri pics, and it looked pretty std to me,wheels and flashy paint aside. there wasn't any custom work done to it's body. at least nothing along the lines of what I'm looking for.]
if you have any other pics you'd care to post,I'd be interested in seeing them.

Justin...

i only got these pics of my rx3 on the computer and mind you this paint job at time of photo's is 6 years old...and hasn't shown any signs of bad work..as for body work,as i said they did exstensive cutting, weling and painting and i was quite happy with the job but each to their own,i wish i still had the photos of the stages of body work and precision taken...it was thoroughly documented to ensure the job was done right, mind you alot of trades people dont like you coming in all the time but it's your car and your money right?if i were you i'd go visit him and see what he can offer.at the end of the day it doesn't bother me who you go to but you as i don't get anything out of it apart from when i am looking at the pics of your finished project car( i like seeing build ups turn into masterpieces)..you asked the forum for opinions and i gave you mine.
without any further adue heres pictures of my old rx3

Looks like every panel got some sort of repair - she has been blocked once to get rid of the ripples and was then undercoated i would assume
