:o :o :o ok then, thanks guys, you made me not like bmw anymore. guess i'll just look at other options then. I guess i just wanted something abit on the luxury side. Leather seats, climate control, etc. Well thanks anyways, the feedback really helps.

oh it gets better.. the leather inside was falling apart especially off the door trims. looked really crap and flimsy

the 318 really is a POS, its made for people who want to own a badge, not a car

yep, and all the higher models (including the M3), are essentially the same car, but hotted up - like an HSV or similar.

I just wanted to mention the following:

That the 4 Cyl 318's are South African built.

I've been told that the 6's are euro built.

Anyone confirm this?

South African plant has about 70% of its total output going to export and it makes an awful lot of the 3series there, something like 50,000 of them going overseas every year. I'd say the 6cylinder is made there as well, probably a knock-down kit like we used to do with commodore chassis in Australia under licence from Opel and engines from another country thrown together locally. It's a big bloody factory.

VW are doing the same thing. I know that the new Golf (and probably other models) are coming out of SA.

I'm glad you've seen the light about BMW's before I had to post anything.

Anything that's a bit luxo in your price range is going to have potential issues,so if you don't buy a civic and go back to thinking along those lines again, remember to factor in at least $3-5k to cover repairs for worn parts.
my celsior was a perfect example of how older luxo cars can be.
