hey guys its time to get another car and i have been searching all cars that i want and have come down to 3 but the main one that i am interested in is the Evolution 3/GSR, i know that they do look like a normal lancer but with the evo 3 kit i think they look awesome. I just wanna ask u guys what ur opinion and info on the machines, ive heard they suffer from some understeer (which can be fixed) but also hear that can be very very quick. anyway just wanting some input on this machines cheers.

Depends what youre going too use it for, great fun little tar-rally and track blasters which have the kind of ability/chuckability too just hurl them through any kind of crap and come out looking a winner, bit like the S13's, light, powerful and predictable. They are a heck of a lot of fun.
Thats about all theyre good for

As something you want too spend a lot of time in either for really long distances or daily commuting then theyre not so great, I mean the drivers position is really good as is your all round visibility and from memory they chucked recaro's in them or some kind of bucket seat which was pretty comfy.
Fittings, rudimentary and cheap like something you'll find in a $17,000 at the time poofta stock Lancer and the bodykits and so on are held together with screws, hot-glue and happy thoughts.
Paint is kinda hows ya going, whole car is really noisy to be in with lots of clunks, bangs, growls and howls which is fun in small doses.
Well paint, bodykit, fittings are cheap, everything else is pretty pricey in terms of parts and I'm not sure how available they are over here, including some of the panels which if I remember correctly where alloy to keep the weight down and they cost a fortune too fix.

I'd find it pretty hard too recommend a Mitsubishi thats coming up too 10 years old and (probably) had a hard life at the hands of 2-3 suicidal owners to anyone. They will break and they will cost a lot too fix in terms of engine and gearboxes, fuel well, meh they like fuel but so does any car that has some grunt.
Easy car to like, dunno if I'd want too live with one :)

hot glue and happy thoughts

i saw one for under 10K (landed and on the road) at one the jap auction sites. its great bang for buck these days, its similar to the 4wd galant GSR's.

don't waste your time. if you want a 4wd turbo, save up some more money and buy a WRX or save up a LOT more money and buy a later model evo.

GSR's are too old, they're not in good shape anymore as most have had quite hard lives, parts are getting hard to get,and they are far from reliable because of all of the previous points.

if you get one, budget at least the equivalent of it's purchase price for repairs and part replacement.

As a previous owner of a GSR. I tend to agree they are getting old :D

But they are a good looking car when the EVO 2 or 3 kit is fitted properly.

Why? What makes the older car a better choice? am genuinely curious about this.

Maybe now they don't have the fully sik factor to worry about, but go back a bit,and they were made hektik as often as anything else was. I can still recall a hot4s cover car that was green harlequin with 17" chromies. that fits the profile in my book.

part of why they don't munch boxes as often is probably in part due to the fact that when they were at the height of their popularity, decent power was 150kw atw,not 300kw atw like it is today, and you average street car put out something like 100kw atw if it was doing well.

I'll have to talk to Josh about them. he had a pretty serious Galant for a while, and was something of a mitsubishi specialist before he started his current business.

i dont know bout real EVO's.. but my mate has a GSR and it is pretty quick for standard...his is now off the road getting completly modded (motor and looks) but how it was, they wouldnt disapoint... he would often launch at like 5k rpm and it would just rocket! very fun and very reliable! had over 200,000ks and was still going wen it went off the road...
