Hey, I have recently decided to sell my 180 due to cops n petrol prices. Well now i need a more practical car. Something that is more comfortable, Reliable and efficient for long term use. The two cars i rounded my search to is the "Honda Jazz Vti" and "Toyota Yaris YR". Both cars are about the same price and drink as much fuel. Any one have any suggestions or pros and cons about these cars that can help me out. The main aspects i am looking for are Safety and Comfortability (and i guess a little bit of looks). All sugestions welcomed.
Cheers.

I have just been through this same thing. I looked at all new cars in that segment and i decided that the new Civic was the best bet if going brand new.

What i ended up doing though was buying a 10 month old car with only 6000 Ks on the clock and with also over 2 years warranty left. The previous owner lost out on depreciation while we saved about 13K. 8)

I can't comment on the yaris but i have a mate with a jazz with cvt that goes alright. Good interior space, probably do everything you'd want a small car to do but i hate the seats. Feels like i'm sitting on a park bench.

Yeh i Also looked at the civics cause i thought they look nicer and all :D . But it was too pricey. My budget is around 16k.
And regarding comfortability i thought jazz had better seats. or it just looks like they do :-? i dun really like the jazz exterior (too much estrogen on the car) but i love their interior and hate Yaris interior. The middle speedo thing and the 3 knobs running down the middle really sucks. I guess i just gota test drive both cars to know.

Go and look at some 12 month old 2nd hand cars. You'll be surprised at what you can get.

I guess the other things to consider are servicing costs, and spare parts. Honda's have always had the reputation of being expensive on parts. Where as Toyota are decent.

Hmm, i like the hondas, yeh they are a lil more expensive, but i also like the build quality of the hondas, yaris would still be a nice car, also need to consider which will hold its value better in the long run...hmm new car insurance, u'll love that, mate getting a new 100 series v8 landcruiser, full comp is like $700 :o coz its a new car...

Ive driven a few new Suzuki Swifts and am very impressed. This might also be a car to consider.

It felt solid and has a great gearbox from what i felt.

Having driven both, here is my opinion:

Jazz ALL THE WAY. Easier to drive, no obscene curves that make reversing damn hard, faster, better dash and design (no shitty speedo in the middle of the car). An all round better car.

The Yaris on the other hand, is a blasphemy of a vehicle. Bulky, wide, difficult to reverse, tacky...basically just an updated Echo. Chat! Chat! Chat! I can give you some more info if you want, but I'm probably in the best position to comment as I have driven both for about 3 hours each.

Between the 2, one would have to go with Jazz. First of all, there's alot of aftermarket mods for Jazz. Second, it's bigger in interior size than a Yaris. Third, Jazz's the fastest in it's class.

Hence the only thing for you to worry about, is if you like the handling of a Yaris or Jazz

I second that. Great little cars.

If its out of the Jazz and Yaris though, i'd go with the Jazz. Only driven the non v-tec (yo?), and it seemed to go quite nice. Smooth gearbox too.
