Hey everyone,

I've been looking for an S15 for like the last three months but now my intertests may have changed to an R34 Gt-t. I test drove one at a dealership the other week and find them alot nicer to drive plus insurance is about 2grand cheaper! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them, good and bad if they can please post it up cos i'm looking for as much info as possible!

Cheers :)

2 grand cheaper? i find that hard to believe.

The S15 is an Aussie delivered car 19/20 times, the skyline is 100% grey import. Keep in mind, if insurance quoted you a price, they may not even approve you for their insurance.

You dont want to be stuck with a car that has an insurance figure 4grand more than what you expected.

Skylines are abit more expensive to maintain, 6cylinders as opposed to 4, and fuel consumption would be larger too as expected.

S15s are the 2nd most expesnive to ensure under the WRX.
It's not about where it's from, it's about precedence and statistics..

Skylines are a lot smoother to drive...nice cars

a while ago...before i bought my s15, i got a quote for an r34 gt-t and it was alot more than the quote for the s15.

Haha, i know S15's are sex on wheels but at the moment the skyline is looking like a better and cheaper option. Obviously the fuel consumption is going to be a tad higher cos of 6 vs 4, but when i test drove both the other week i found the R34 alot nicer to drive, they are so smooth and have a beautiful gearbox. Plus that sexy "swooooosh" sound, mmmmmmm wastegate. Not saying that the flutter of an S15 isnt as equally hot if not more!

Mechanically wise tho, are there any problems that anyone knows of?

Fuel consumption is allot more than a CA or SR. Beware!!!

Yes when I was looking for my Silvia I went buy the "swooooosh" sound, Test drove a few and picked the one with the best sound, Thats what is most important to me not rust, suspention, km's, engine condition :D Haha

Don't go buy a car by the sound the BOV, wastgate make, It's not that imporatnt.

Especially if you plan on doing any mods, cause you can make just about any car you want sound the way you want :)

Have you checked the SAU forums? You'll get all the info you need there.

my stagea is essentially a 4wd wagon version of the GT-T. having owned 2 S15's before,I know which is better to drive, and it's most definitely the silvia.

you can go a lot further on a smaller budget with a silvia than a skyline, and the car will be faster and more reliable.

it all depends on what you're after. if you just want to pose, the skyline is better as there are less on the road,so more young boys will stare at you as you drive by. if you want to get out and drive the car as it was intended, you're better off in the S15.

It sounds like she's after the former, rather than the latter....

given her interest in fluttery, choofy noises,I'm inclined to agree, however I thought I'd give her the benefit of the doubt.

hehe choofy noises i like that

fergo arent the stags on the heavier side though compared to a gt-t, lowering there handling abilities relatively?

the silvia would definately be more chuckable though, and i agree that it will be cheaper to mod the silvia, but the 6 cyl engine feels alot smoother and refined

if you want a cruiser go gt-t, if you want sports car feel go s15

yeah, they are heavier, but they also have a longer wheelbase with a similar weight balance, even if it is heavier overall.
a stagea will handle worse than a GTT to be sure, but the overall dynamics would be very similar.

the SR isn't as smooth as an RB,but it's far more responsive to mods and makes a lot more power a lot more easily.
I have an RB for the extra torque more than the power. my stagea is a daily driver that hits the twisties now and again, and will eventually tow my weekend/race car.
an SR won't move the stagea as well,it's too heavy.
