Ah private import or not it can't be registeered here. Because the T30 was sold here it isn't elligable under SEVS and being this new it has to be imported accordingly.

Who the hell measures compression to 12.47:1???

As for the 16VE head they are pysically different to the 20VE head. I doubt he has ever seen an SR16VE!!!

And chewing 2L or fuel per minute. My my he must have an injector stuck open!!
I know a fair few off their head SR's with better consumption than that!!

I'm sure if you own a car overseas for a year your allowed to bring it back to Australia as a private import. Yes it's an x trail but the aussie version isn't turboed...

Risking, I have just been Reading customs, DoTaRS, SEVS, RVCS and as far as I have been able to find, Personal Imports are completely separate to the SEVS scheme.

If you look at section 5, here:

http://www.dotars.gov.au/transreg/vsb/vsb_10.aspx#5.06

All that apparently is required of the vehicle is that it is roadworthy, and meet minimum safety standards. There is also a pretty strict criteria of the owner, especially Japan (proof of parking space, licence, actually in the country for 12 months).

You will probably need to pay around 20% all up in taxes, as well as have the car inspected at quaranteen. But I have not seen one part that suggests there is a list as to which cars can be brought in and which cant.

Im just trying to find a concrete answer for my own interest, but these govenment .PDF-happy websites can be pretty confusing unless you spend a LOT of time reading EVERYTHING. :-?

The Government has announced changes to the arrangements for the importation of vehicles 15 years or older. Under the new rules, vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1989 may be imported without restriction. Vehicles built during 1989 (or later) will need to qualify under the Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme (RAWS).

This states any vehicle built after 1989 be it low volume or personal import must pass through RAWS. Now Im not aware of every model but I do know the T30 X-trail is NOT on the RAWS list.
Now these apply from may 2005 and he claims to have been driving it around for 6 months which basicly means the car came in around july 2005 which is AFTER may 2005

I remain sceptial as I personally looked into a private import and it could not be done unless it was a listed vehicle which at the time it wasn't.

I honestly couldn't care less what he drives just can't stand dickheads making stuff up about there "tough" engines.

Hi,

The guy is full of BS!

I've got a 1968 Rover Gas Turbine with 10:1 reduction gearbox on the front end. This thing revs to 50,000rpm and produces 60hp!
The turbine is very light and I can pick it up with no problems. I originally wanted to stick it up the ass of a VW beetle!
It was used by UNSW as a static teaching rig for the Mexhanical Engineering students. The reason I say the guy is full of BS, is because my turbine uses 1 litre of fuel per minute at full power! The turbine is a continuous burn engine, there is no way that a 2L SR20DE(or VE) will burn 2L per minute!

Cheers!

Correct me if I am over looking the obvious, but even if it had 1000cc injectors it is only going to deliver 1 litre per minute
