hey guys im posting for my mate, he dont know much about his car and im a honda boy!
ive only got a bit of sr20 knowledge so i thought i'd post here

my buddy owns a N14 SSS with a JDM motor in it.. its not the aussie "jap import" one but a proper JDM motor... the intake manifold is different on it. thats the obvious difference i picked up on it

the previous owner did the swap himself (i'm yet to contact him for more details, but i wana ask on here first) and said its the JDM motor

whats happened is my mate has blown his motor (piston rings) and wanting to source another JDM sr20..
i was wondering if theres any major difference between the aussie "jap import" motors and JDM sr20's??.. cos to save on cost i was thinking maybe just getting the aussie spec sr20 and uses the JDM gearbox and ECU..
would this even work?? or would i need the aussie spec ECU?
is there any differences between the two??...

sorry if i've confused everyone but im confused too...
i would have thought the N14 jap imports would have exactly the same engine as the JDM ones???

depends on what engine is actually in the car....my old SSS had a jdm imported engine in but it was a engine from a u13 bluebird. You'll need to find out exactly what car the engine came from.

If it is the u13 engine that's in it...you will definately have to change the ecu to get the aust spec engine running in it as they are more or less completely different engines AFAIK.

Is this a DET you are talking about?

I think he's talking DE. the almera/primera engines run higher compression than ours,I know that's one difference between them.
cams are likely bigger as well, and as has been said, the inlet mani is different.
other than that,I can't say really,I haven't seen much about them.

if your mate wants to be tricky and go for big NA power, tell him to try and source an SR16VE head to go on the block. vtec style cam timing and serious flow in the ports and manifolds.

Aren't they running 10.5:1?

If its a primera engine the cams are a different part number to our Jap spec DE's but the actual duration/lift figures I dont have in front of me.

If the engine needs internal work its no big deal with parts.
Looking breifly in the parts listings all the SR20DE's have the same rings listed, same goes for bearings.

Pistons there are a few variences for different models.

If he just goes and buys an aus DE then thats no problem.
You will need to swap the temp sensors over and the injectors IF they are different.
From there it will all run fine.
I have fitted JDM SR20's into N14/15's in the past using the stock loom and JDM ECU. I found the temp gauge always read past hot with the JDM sensors, I put the AUS sensors in and the temp now sits fine.

Some jap de's are 10:1 nothing special but better.

If he wants an sr20de i have one from a pulsar sss that i will give away. 180,000kms but it still goes really well. Gearbox is probably the standard pulsar box and definatly will mate up. I would assume the ecu will be the same. If you give me a case of beer i can throw my ecu in with it
