nah haven't heard anything much..

For a car that's apparently an excellent driver's car, have a look at the Fiat X1-9... Or, if you can handle the extreme 80's styling, I had a Subaru Vortex Turbo, and it was one of the most fun cars I've driven. (they're under 4 grand now) Apparently you can boost them up to 15psi on the stock computer and turbo too :) (that's from 6psi standard)

Parts are pretty cheap and easy, coz parts are interchangeable from most of the subarus of the era... still, it is the "enemy" :)

Yeah I had a 260Z 2 seater before the Vortex, was also a damn cool car, but they all rust like anything, so you're looking at around 8k for a properly restored one...

Both the X1-9 and the TR7 would be pretty fun cars to drive, but neither are that quick..

The TR7 will be full of rust, tell him to shop around and get a Sprinter and whack in a 4AGZE. Trumpy's are cool but rare to find without terminal rust and expensive when restored.

Righto, what about rust, all the little things when building a car, engineers certificate. Upgrade of brakes etc. Theres more than meets the eye. That and a Sprinter handles better

4-5 grand to spend!!! can get a way better car for that much! i bought my last car (CA18DET 180sx + mods) for $4,000, and yes it was complied, running, in good condition, and 120,000k's on the clock!!! beat that! anyway im straying from the topic. i would suggest he shops around for a good car, it is possible to find a silvia or 180 for that much, trust me! but an AE86 sprinter would be an awesome option also!
