They are basically a front wheel drive version of a SR20DE Silvia Q's in a different body (still weighs about the same though). Very similar performance from factory, so modding should be similar too.

Look at results of the SR20DE Silvia's from last and next dyno day to compare...

Ummm well its FWD and the amount i have seen bastardised by stereos and big rims chopped springs makes me think little of them.

My last ride was a N14 SSS Pulsar, a better car in every way than any other model of Pulsar (GTiR excluded, but its a N14 as well).
I kept mine totally stock as far as the cosmetics went, other than a decent Pioneer CD tuner...the factory unit was crap! Other than that I only did the exhaust and air filter. Never had any trouble toasting V6 commies or 4.0L coons 8)

When me and the girl get enough money to get a second car we'll be trying to get another N14.

We too can have sr20det power by means of a U12/13 engine or a gtir block :D

You should tell your mate to join www.pulsar.org.au we have heaps of members, regular cruises and all the guys ive met from the group in sydney are top guys, always willing to help you out if you have any dramas.

Me and my girlfriend both have N14 pulsars!!
Hers is a SSS and mine a Q
Both have the same engines though.
They go pretty hard for a NA 2L and the SR20 engine is a very strong engine!!
You should still be able to pick up a good N14 SSS for around $12,000 give or take, although most of them have been snapped up by P-platers and young car thrashers.
I have beaten various cars in my Q, namely other Qs and SSSs, an AU falcon ute, a prelude, numerous excels, i beat an S15 over 20m until the turbo spooled up!! hehehe
The only thing is that the N14 is getting on a bit now and i have recently had to have a new clutch, clutch cable, CVs installed and i need new shocks soon as well. Albeit I have had no problems with the engine and I have put it thru some crap!!!
