The Datsun is what earned the respect for Nissan. Bulletproof Reliability, Great performance and handling (for their time) and also very advanced for their time. These are all the underlying traits that are common with modern Nissans that make them so sought after and respected. Not to mention the ease of parts changability with modern nissans (engine swaps etc..)

Pay homage to the Mighty Datto in this Thread - talk about the little beasts, even if you havent got one..

All experiences welcome..

Having owned quite a few "classic" datsuns I can only vote good. There have been quite a few bad ones along the way though.

OKAYYY who voted bad??

i love em, the bad ones are obviously the rough/battered rust buckets out there.. im talkin about the good ones.. Datsuns as a car - not their condition..

so easy to work on, fun to modify, Old-school tough..

that still depends on which ones.

You can't tell me that a 120Y coupe isn't the ugliest car ever made, or that it lives up to the "excitement machine" advertising slogan :P

I always liked the Datto 1200 B110 Coupe, well the shape anyway.

Some real datto's:

http://www.users.bigpond.com/fairlady/featuresb.html

http://www.users.bigpond.com/fairlady/ozracing

One of the links from the second URL leads to a spectaccular pic of an old Datsun 1000 2-wheeling down Bathurst when it was a 500 mile race for genuine production cars (late 1960s).

it was stock, except for the exhaust (which was on it when I bought it) and the 240Z carbies / open filters I installed.
