Firstly no we didn't drag race or anything silly. He took me for a ride in his and then I returned the favour.

I can't get over how different the cars are, mainly due to the fact the wrx was stock, quiet and smooth.

Pretty damn fast in a straight line though, would need an S13 with something like 150rwkw to keep up. Traction is superb, even under power in really tight corners. Couldn't sense any understeer like I would have expected.

The 180 by contrast is rough as guts. Stiff, loud, and no traction under 3rd gear it would struggle point to point on a bumpy twisty road against this WRX. On the track with a smooth surface and good tyres I think I could beat it though.

Anyways just wanted to post my experience since I hadn't been in a wrx for a few years and the last one I drove was a MY99 model.

ahhh the good old nissan vs subaru. god love these battles!
im in a constant battle against a friend of mine. he owns a 2002 wrx thats fitted with a STI cooler, STI injectors, VF35 turbo, pump, computer, exhaust, bigger fuel rails, etc.
even though his car feels nice on the twisties, as for launching, im still yawning as he slams it from 1st gear and all the way up through the gears into 4th. im not overly impressed with its power curve at all.
he swears its the best thing since sliced bread. pfffft! ill stick to my toast thanks.
before i sold my s14a (was producing 216rwkw) i offered him out many many times. there was always an excuse as to why he couldnt run such as... its raining (WHAT THE FUCK?) he just washed his car, he has put the wrong petrol in his car, its due for a service, the cat died, and a lot of other excuses too.
now im guessing he is getting close to 180 kw at all wheels. its certainly decent power for a piss weak boxter engine with glass pistons, rods and valves lol.
ive since sold the S14a and put all the goodies into my other s14a which is now getting 250rwkw.
ive still yet had the opportunity to run him even though i push it onto him almost every second day.
in the meantime, ive ran many MY99's, 2002's and one 2004STI along the way. the most common reaction ive received was (jaw dropped).. how the fuck did you get 10 lengths on me in like 200 metres?

well.... the battle continues...

nice work man....
yeh before i crashed my first s14a, ive had many runs with rex too.....but i did not have as much power as your, we had illegal drags, u know when ur young u always wanna try em out and yeh they launch hard so u win some and lose some, but one race i went with em off, launch together and yeh every gear i was pulling away.....he had one excuse " i missed a gear"

I've raced a a my04 wrx in my 180sx, the rex was stock, my car had CAI, FMIC, exhaust and running 10psi...I beat him by a little over a car length. Got me on the launch but thru 2nd and 3rd I minced him good.

i had a similar experience, without the FMIC tho. i was 'racing' an STi tho. she took me off the lights, but once moving i was gaining faster than i thought i would. then we backed off and had a chat, then both planted it. i was in 3rd, and everyone knows what happens to an SR20DET in 3rd :P they seem to get some more balls from somwhere lol

Also what sti came with a flat 6? I think they are all flat 4's. I have heard some wrx's built for Pikes Peak etc. /had a flat 6's but tats about it.
