Hmm i dunno if the ammount of time i spend on the track is enough to destroy drums, FLY PSI has a drum rear end but our engine cooling hit's the limit before anything else, also at initialdrift days you do 4 laps on then cool down for 15 minutes then 4 laps again. A few drift hachis use the drum rear end, apart from being cheaper the big drums handle handbrakies better. I've seen the guys shake out the drums ever time they change their wheels but thats about it.

the TRX rear end actually has a drum/disc combo. unfortunately for me, i cant get new shoes anymore.

[quote="Umai Naa"]...then there's me, Gazilvia, 8lade/Waleed, FJO-20T and a couple of others.

would like to organise a meet up for NSW S12s, though.

hey dude that's sound like a good idea, but the only porblem is actua lly organizing the whole thing.

hey what would be the better transplant SR20 det or CA18det? and how would either roughly cost?

Better as in faster when it's done? The SR is more powerfull and will become more powerfull with mods, the CA makes decent power and is much cheaper and an easier conversion. My car has cost me around $11k so far, salps12 car has cost similar. Both have had almost everything changed tho, i have had a respray etc too.
Minimum cost for a CA18DET sitting in your car and working provided you can do the work yourself is the cost of the car plus about $3k for everything you need to do the swap. Idealy you'd do the suspension and brakes up to tho so maybe $5k and you'd have a nice basic quickish car (at a guess). Get someone else to do the work and you can double that price tho.

the more you can do, the cheaper it will be. i've alreay had to send my car to have a cage fitted ($640), and had most of the rust cut out at the same time ($300).

since i cant weld (...yet), i'll have to send it out again to get an exhaust made, intercooler piping done, have the cage added to, the list goes on...

oh, and did i mention tuning??

i'm looking at a minimum of $15k when it's on the track.

BTW as for the get together, i'll try and get things underway when i buy another s12.

plenty if you strip the car right out and sort the suspension.

There was a guy down south who used to drift a NA SR20DE in a S12, he's pretty well destroyed the car now but it used to be ok from what i've heard. As long as your suspension setup is up to it it's all good.
This is his car, looks well boro.

surely, your car cant be as stripped as mine :P

no carpet
no stereo
no sound deadening
minimal dash
no headlining
minimal plastics
no a/c
no fan
no heater box
a few unused metal brackets removed here and there
cut down wiring harness
no rear seat
no rear wiper

cant think of anything else at this point, but it took a long time to get that far.

...no drivers seat...

Umai Naas guzzle couldnt be any more stripped... only the doortrims and the main dash carcass remain (and they have to be there for CAMS!)

Just our of interest how much dash needs to be there for CAMs? Me and a mate have our CA18DET doribird (aka series 3 bluebird) almost completely stripped, we have removed the dash entirely and want to replace it with a rolled edged alu panel with padding if nessessary.

We are hoping for an easy sub 1000kg, it's a CA18DET with RB25 turbo and pretty much everything else stripped out. Should have a better power to weight than my gazelle easily :)
