Well im running S13 coilovers at the front, S13 sr20 brakes and a CA18DET in the engine bay.
R31 and Z31 LSD diffs fit straight into the S12 IRS models with some Z31 cv shafts.

SR20DET fits into the S12 without too much hassle.

Check these threads out.

if you have a live axle car, then a series 3 bluebird TRX axle swap will give you big rear discs (be sure to upgrade your master cylinder though).

master cylinder swap is unnessessary, as are the discs really, the drums are big and don't fade. Only upgrade if it's required by engineers.
Oh yeah and alot of bits are interchangable (or easily fitted) with S13, and Z31.

LSDs seem to go for around $600 upwards that i have seen, expect around $750 if you go to an importer. You will need Z31 driveshafts to, around$200 from a wrecker.

Nah the gearbox is the same series as the S13s but it's a 'B' box with an external linkage not a 'C' box with an internal linkage so short shifters aren't interchangable. I'm told you can flip the ball thingy that the stick goes on upside down to shorten the throw but never done it myself. You get used to it tho, just when you first drive it it feels like a truck.

What are they like for drifting? Well the S12 was one of the most notorious drift cars in Japan back in the eighties. I remember when I first bought mine I rang up NRMA to sort out insurance and the dude I spoke to, as soon as I told him I had bought an S12 he said: "oh, a drifter eh?"
I have an S12 CA20E at the moment with live axle, King Springs and KYB shocks and I pulled fourth gear sideways on a big corner (Going south on the Cotter, turning onto Streeton Dr. for any ACT boys who might be reading this) and - even with the live axle - with some nice suspension she slid beautifully and corrected quite nicely.
The S12 really is the perfect way to get into drifting cheaply and with a very reliable car. My car is older than me, I've had her for over 18 months and the one repair I've done was an alternator for a couple of hundred bucks. It's almost boring how little maintenance she needs as well, I check the oil and the coolant and the brakes but they just seem to maintain themselves ...it's just no fun!!!
That's all, God bless

From what I know, you dont want a S13 R200 LSD, as they are the "short nose" version and aren't going to suit your needs unless you want to fit the whole rear end.

The Z31 300zx diff's and R31 R200's (from import models with IRS) are the long nose CV joint version of the R200 that will suit a S12 with IRS, as stated above.

Check the link below for some interesting pics of a factory S12 that came with a CA18DET non-intercooled with IRS;

Cheers

Martin

Didnt want to see you get caught out buying a short nose R200 and finding its not suitable.

There are at least 4 or 5 drift gazelles in the sydney-newcastle area right now.
Myself, Fly Psi, Simex 44, Salps12 and another guy i saw i saw at the IDA drift day last weekend.
This is a link to some pics of the drift day last weekend. The blue/gold car is me and the two tone car is Fly Psi.
There will be a video of both the gazelles and other cars drifting the IDA day up next weekend.

...then there's me, Gazilvia, 8lade/Waleed, FJO-20T and a couple of others.

would like to organise a meet up for NSW S12s, though.

hey nebs, i was talking to a dude in Un Zud the other week who reckoned the disc rear end is the G-O for track use, coz like i've said before, it only takes half a day to overheat them and tear the linings off the drums. HQ's do it all the time. but then again, they adjust brake-bias by pulling the handbrake up a couple of clicks!!

when my LSD arrives - fingers crossed tomorrow - i'll be able to put the diff back together.

Hmm i dunno if the ammount of time i spend on the track is enough to destroy drums, FLY PSI has a drum rear end but our engine cooling hit's the limit before anything else, also at initialdrift days you do 4 laps on then cool down for 15 minutes then 4 laps again. A few drift hachis use the drum rear end, apart from being cheaper the big drums handle handbrakies better. I've seen the guys shake out the drums ever time they change their wheels but thats about it.
