Hows it goin champs!

Was just wonderin if anyone knows what the factory Skyline intercoolers look like (colour, brand name?, etc.)

The reason i'm asking is that my s15 came with a black FMIC already installed.. and i'm having a hellofa hard time identifying it.. there are no brand names visible whatsoever. Sorry for the lack of description but there's nothing else i can think of to identify it! I've heard that the stock Skyline intercoolers are black also (hence the post).. how can i tell what sorta Intercooler i've got installed?? :o

(Will try to provide pics asap)

Well a lot of ppl paint their coolers for the stealth/sleeper effect.
I know APS sold the S15 coolers in Black.

But as far as I know the skylines came with side mounts like the silvias did, excpet the GTR, well at least the R34 GTR.
Might be worth while asking on a skyline site.

But yeah posting pics will help.

I have a large R32 GTR front mount which is black. I'd say its most probably one of those.

They are most common

I know that the standard R33 non-gtr coolers are exactly the same as the ones in the S14s.

Big black ones that look tube and fin are most likely from GTRs.

thanks for the replies..

dont think its an aftermarket as there would surely be some sort of brand name right? just found an artcle on nz silvia and it looks really similar to mine!!

http://www.nissansilvia.co.nz/tech/R33Intercooler/r33intercooler.htm

this one's off an R33 - so basically with the Skyline coolers if its a large front mount it will definitely be from a GTR? COOL!! hehe.. i wonder if there's a part number i can look up.. cant be bothered registering on the Skyline forum just to ask one question

the easiest way to tell is in the end tank designs.

The GTR coolers have big mounting brackets cast into the end tanks, and the inlet and outlet pipes curve back and down from the cooler.
Also, the tanks are crimped onto the core, which has very thin tubes (~5mm), each with a line down the middle where the metal is folded.

Most aftermarket coolers have the tanks welded on, straight pipes, larger tubes (or are bar / plate), and will have welded on brackets of some kind.

The GTS-T coolers are similar to the "S" car coolers, but have a slightly longer core, and different end tanks with larger pipes.
SR20DET S13 coolers are the same as S14 coolers, but S15s are thicker.
CA18DET coolers are the same size as the GTS-T coolers (a bit longer than S13/14 ones) but are not as thick (50mm vs 60mm). They also have plastic end tanks with a different piping layout.

this is a good pointer, if they are cast its most definately a stock item off another car
all aftermarket ones are welded on, that ive seen anyways
