I quick glance around the net says that they can do 0-100 in 5.2 seconds and the quarter in 13.5 seconds.
4wds aren't easy to launch and maybe he was wary of absolutely flogging his nice shiney evo to much? Maybe he was a bad driver to. They could also be not really that fast, autospeed says you will never get a STi WRX to do its claimed 5.45 second 0-100. Realisticly they say it can do low 6 seconds if you do a huge clutch dump launch but if you get it wrong then you are into the 7s.
It's probably down to it being slightly slower than factory claimed (they probably claim the best times that one of their test cars ever did...ever) and it being hard to launch a 4wd.
Should get him to lend it to me for some 'independant testing' 8)

aussie spec evo VII should be a solid low 14sec car, if not flat 14sec.

Jap spec, id say healthy high 13's, but who cares about straight lines really when you have an evo right :)

and if i had a kitted ordinary lancer, id be happy to break in the 16's

If I had a kitted ordinary Lancer, I'd be happy if someone broke into it and drove it off a 16m cliff.

An Evo VI would probably go harder in a straight line. It doesn't make that much less power, but it does weigh 200kg less.

But 4WDs are notorious for getting off the line quickly. Especially the Evo VIII, since it has a rev limiter at 0km/hr so you can't do redline clutch dumps to launch. Mitsubishi stuck it there to protect the driveline.

Motor says the fastest way to launch it is to dump it from the limiter, get it rolling, then hit the clutch, redline it, and dump it again. Doesn't sound like the easiest thing in the world to do.

It's easy, just start normally (most AWD's need to be rolling a tad first, I've seen many a Lamborghini do the same thing fo 1/4 mile runs and drags, go shit slow for a teeny bit then plant it. Then when you're moving a bit just put the clutch in while you're moving and dump it, keeping your right foot steady and of course adding more accelerator as you go.

Works in any car and handy for when you fuck up your launch, not exactly terribly kind on the mechanics though :D But it works.

Hi guys,

After seeing a few evos run i would say thats about right (the time of 14's) unless the guy is a blurdy good driver. We all know how hard it is to lauch a car properly and esp a 4wd. Also comes down to his situation such as he might have a fcuked box, or slipping clutch, could be a variety of things.

Never been able to believe some that a normal driver can deliver these specs that the manufacturers give out thou. I mean who they think drives these cars to get these times on the road?.. D1 japan drivers.

So in short, Save yourself alot of money and hassle, buy a CC GSR :P They also run mid 14's stock... If that all an evo will do, is it worth it ;)

Can't say I'd be wanting a drift specialist to drive my car down the quarter mile if I wanted a fast time.....

Yep you got it in one, the staight line performance is exactly what Mitsubishi were concentrating on.
Not to mention the bullshit smart active yaw and diffs/suspension setup that has been rally bred for many a year.
Ok 1/4 mile times gives you an indication of the power the motor puts out, but put this thing through some twisties or on a track, you may see a different car.

easily 14 second car. ur talking 206 kw with 4wd launch. should be low 13 second car. Of course you'd have to dump the clutch for such a time.
