Hey Guys,

As i'm sure you have heard Holden has just brought there new Alloytec V6.

Seems like a good motor, about 8 years late though. Using old technology is what automotive in Australia always seems to do...

But i personally think that they will do well with the motor and 190kw for a 3.6 on 91ron ULP doesn't sound that bad...
Image

Configuration
----3.6-litre 60-degree DOHC V6

Peak Power
----190kW @ 6500 rpm (Alloytec 190)
----175kW @ 6000 rpm (Alloytec)

Peak Torque
----340Nm @ 3200 rpm (Alloytec 190)
----320Nm @ 2800 rpm (Alloytec)

Displacement
----3564 cc

Bore x Stroke
----94mm x 85.6mm

Valvetrain
----Dual overhead camshafts
----4-valve-per-cylinder
----Four-cam continuously variable cam phasing (Alloytec 190)
----Two-cam continuously variable cam phasing (Alloytec)

Compression Ratio
----10.2:1

Engine Speed Limit
----6700 rpm (Alloytec 190)
----6100 rpm (Alloytec)

I think it also uses an electronic 68mm throttle body and a 32-bit Bosch Motronic ME 9.0 ECU...

I wouldn't mind seeing what power figures the aftermarket Super/Turbocharged kits will be putting out...

8 years too late? more like 15 if you ask me.

local cars have always been low-tech,mainly because they haven't had to be cutting edge, people buy them anyway. they're bought out of patriotism, laziness, and because they're cheap.
why bother developing efficient, more powerful engines, when the law doesn't say we have to yet,and we can save money by using our big brother's hand-me-downs? that's tha attitude.

the new engine is a step in the right direction, like the BA falcon's 6,and was done IMO purely to pass the coming emission laws. as of 2007 if I remember correctly, the required CO and NOx levels are going to be reduced by a factor of ten,to euro 2 standards. the old ecotec v6 just wouldn't pass. remember the Vl and it's nissan 6? it got that for the same reason,to pass emissions laws, not because they wanted to use it.

Justin...

Thats probably true, it's to bad that they change to a newer better motor cos they have to not cos they want to deliver a better product.
Most ppl on the street seem to be happy with their old school buick based V6 motors so i guess they saw no reason to change.

Consider this. Nissan V6's where not only twin cam, but have been Quad cam for more than 10 years!

Stupid Holden.

Once the turbo kit is developed for these things, watch out, the XR6T will seem like Nanna's run around compared to VZ6+T.

Before you guys go off on a tangent (sounds like im too late saying that), don't forget Holden is a business. They are in the market to make money, and they do that quite well. Developing an engine like this was not really a competetive advantage 15 years ago... what would they gain by doing that?

Of course they'll implement something like this in a market where they have to meet emissions. You don't have to like the car, hell, who are they to care all these years they didn't have a twin cam engine.. its not like a twin cam engine is going to sway you over to buy one for your next car :)

My 2c (Dont flame me :D)

The engine seems to make good power, but torque is a little low..im guessing this is an engine that needs to be revved and wound up a bit.

I wonder how true the figures are though..

Doubt that very much.

I'm told these new 6's will have some mod potential if you get rid of some of the budget stuff they'll be putting on, liek replacing the granny cams with something better and some ECU mods,

no doubt that the Holden turbo 6 will have mod potential, but the ford donk isnt something to just brush aside, especially when mods come into play.

From factory all VZ6's will be naturally aspirated as they already make more power then the current SC6.
The Turbo kits I was refering to was aftermarket jobbies.
Just look at he XR6 N/A motor compared to the VZ6 N/A, the basic platform already has a massive advantage, add a turbo and you can imagine the results.

no replacement for displacement, as long as the ford head can flow (and it can, have a look at the aftermarket joints getting 500+hp from them) the ford will make more power with the same mods. Simplisticly put anyways.

at any rate it might be fine to see some nissan/subaru/toyota guys who are used to chopping standard falcodores with poorly modified cars run into some competition from a local manufacturer, i laugh

with some of the improvements i might just be tempted to buy a holden or a ford if i needed an affordable family car :)

Hehe indeed, a stock XR6 turbo is already more of a challenge than a VX SS so when the newer FPV Typhoon comes out it might scare a few people to. I wonder when we will start seeing light tune XR6 turbos around, i've seen the kits advertised but all the XR6s around here are stock. They need a kit to reduce the kerb weight of falcodores though, they are tanky, maybe a holesaw and a drill
