im gonna buy a 180sx(sr20det) before the end of the year,
i cant spend more than 15,000 for one, and i dont wanna get a thrashed one, today i saw one on the road and the engine was fucked, it couldnt idle properly at the lights.
how much should a decent one cost,
manual, 91-, sr20det, stock, ~80ks
and how do i check if the engine is in good condition.

Just check if all the fluid levels are full, oil etc
watch the exhaust fumes during idle acelleration,blue/white smoke,
check that all the odometer numbers are alligned-all!
check for rust under doors and seals,
leaking oil around the head and coils,
this is just general advice, sr-20's are dam tough nuts

Not idling properly - could be out of tune???? different cams??? Don't assume anything.

Oh yeah and get the NRMA to inspect it. $100 odd for a second set of eyes. Check with our sponsor AutoDisposals they should be able to help.

My '91 180sx (SR20DET) cost me $18 000 with 90 000 k's on the clock.Interior and exterior were perfect. That was 2 years ago and i've had no problems since.I reckon you could take a few grand off for the same thing at todays prices.Hope this helps :D

fuck the NRMA they just check the body work, do a compression test and get a mate to drive behind you to look for smoke(any colour). let it idle for a while then hold it at 4000 rpm steady for a few seconds listening for any rattles or knocks if its fucked you will know. you can also get a mechanic to do a leak down test and also check the colour off the water and oil it should not look like milk! if looking at an sr take the oil cap off and look for cam wear. verify the k's via worn pedals and interior etc. check around the motor for new silicon indicating a rebuild or repairs.

hope this is helpful, i have checked out hundreds of sr s13's and there is a LOT of shit around. dont buy from Parramatta lebbo yards i would gp private as yard warranty is useless anyway. if you take the time to check these points you cant go wrong.

you will EASILY get a good condition sr20 180 for under $15000 if you look around and buy private.

most of all WHY-180? buy a silvia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

What bad experiences have you guys had with parra rd dealers?? I've heard dodgy stories about alot of import dealers not only confined to parra rd. You should be able to tell if you are looking at a dud though, best way is to take it for a drive, that should give you a good idea of how good the condition of the car is in. As for KM's I reckon most imports would be wound back at some stage so that's probably not a good indication.

When I went to parra road looking for my car, I had a mechanic with me, he was fixinh little problems with every car we looked at. Many of them had a faulty injector or something similar, ie missfire.

Go private, and read up.

Yeah well I bought my car from there (stupidly) well over a year ago and I still haven't had any real problems with it. I spent ages looking for a good private one but they all had problems. I guess I was unlucky or didn't know where to look.

Car: 1995 SR20DET 180sx
I just bought a 180 a couple of days ago. Only been in AUS for about 3weeks.
the car is pretty fresh.

Heres the specs.

1995 180sx SR20DET
blitz BOV
blitz turbo timer
blitz Boos and Vaccum guages
blitz muffler
3" cat back exhaust.

74800 km and the car drives smooth.

PRICE $13,500 unregistered.
After the Bluslip + greenslip + 12 months rego
The car OWES me $14600.

Still a damn good price for a 1995 180sx 2L turbo.

If your interested in a 91, I can get one for 13k
check out www.uniqueautosports.com.au > goto the cars4sale and go to the silvia section.
Theres a red 180 there for 16k. If your quick I can get it for ya for 13k without the rims. Just the stockers. with rims add another 1k (thats cheap for brandnew lenso rims with 235 rubbers)

email me on white180sx@silviaaustralia.com

Is it manual or automatic?? That's pretty cheap for a 95 180sx if it's manual.

95 Manual SR20DET Blacktop At the moment @ the dealers and private sales a 95 model can fetch up to the 20k mark. So I'm pretty happy with it.

Sweet ride. Now with the car holding 8-9psi its sweet.
Its fairly stock apart fromt he 3" cat back but its already got some neccessary gear like timer and BOV and some guages.

Soon a full turbo back exhaust and a filter. :D

Iterior wise its like brand new and the car drives like it too. With all the jap accesories like digital climate control and electric everything, its like a luxury sports car.

Sorry for going on and on but i've only had the car for about 3 weeks and Im in LOVE.

As for putting a deposit a mate of mine is in the proccess of getting a loan to buy it. Don't think they'll hold it for ya. Come up with the cash and buy it.. :)
