My 180 has been off the road for couple of months until work was done on it. Work has finally finished and I noticed that idle varies between 800 – 1200 rpm. Mind you the car is currently un-registered so I can’t drive it around.

While the car was parked in the workshop the battery was disconnected so the ecu has been reset. Before it used to idle at about 2500rpm which was caused by a faulty O2 sensor on the manifold (new O2 sensor was installed which has fixed that problem).

Another thing I discovered new days ago was that a second sensor near the cat, the cables have been ripped off (guess it happened when we towed the car).

My question is, the idle problem is most likely related to the ecu or the sensor near the cat? Is this an o2 sensor? If its the ECU how long do I have to drive before it re-maps itself?

Thanks in advance guys! You guys are a big help always!! :D

its a temp sensor. its not major, in fact you dont need it. AFAIK its only connected to the temperature lamp on your instrument cluster. My S13 one wasnt connected the whole time i had it

The temp sensor near the cat, you don't need it, all it does is control the light on the dash... thats it !

As soon as you put an aftermarket exhaust on the car, most ppl just tuck it away or cut it off (like I did).

Just make sure the wires are cut and dont touch (to trigger the dash light).

That wont make any difference to how the car runs, pretty much everyone I know has it disconnected or removed.

phew! I thought it was some sort of o2 sensor, the last one i bought was $100 :-?

And what about the question regarding the ECU? Umm so the idling problem has to be ecu related considering the temp sensor isnt needed.

the idling problem might be related to your AFM. it might be dirty from sitting there a long time. I know my car was!!

the ECU remaps itself within a few minutes of driving, but it should still idle fine.. i had my battery disconnected last week, and when i reconnected it, it idled fine straight away....

this is common knowledge,

disconnect ecu, leave for 10mins

connect and let idle between 10 and 15 mins

Before I got the new o2 sensor, there used to be a pause (rev would stay still for a second or two) between 5000-5500 rpm range, since replacing the sensor that problem is gone.
What I discovered now is that if I apply full throttle and stop straight away, the cars idle falls below 800rpm or even stalls sometime.

I should be getting the blue slips for the 180 today so keeping my fingers crossed. First thing on the list is to get all the sensors checked and get it dyno tuned.
