Post subject:  New to 180sx ownership. A few questions.
Hey all, I am new to 180sx ownership I bought a tidy blue reasonably clean 1992 example with a SR20. Has had the basic mods done, air intake, front mount intercooler, exhaust, lowered etc.
I am putting this thread up here today as I am looking at trying to make a few tweaks on the car to make it suit me a little more.
My questions include:
Is there a way to improve the steering? I find it really numb and far too light, is it possible to throw a non power steering setup in?
Also my second thing I am searching for is to try and improve my fuel economy a bit, I am planning on getting the injectors serviced soon and a wheel alignment. I am getting about 12L/100km at the moment.

your steering is an easy fix! there is a rubber bush in the shaft that gets old and causes the lack of feeling. replace it with a new one, or a metal spacer and that will fix that problem!

economy? you bought a turbo car and expect economy??

there are a few causes of crap economy, yours isnt all THAT bad. however, it might be O2 sensor, AFM, dirty injector. so maybe start with those

You can replace the bush with either an alloy or polyurethane one. The vagueness can also be due to old rack bushes, caster rod bushes and shagged LCA bushes.

I wouldn't recommend no power steering in a street car, the steering weight at low speeds is very high without it, but not too bad when you're up to speed.

If you increase caster it'll also add more weight to the steering as well as increasing dynamic camber so that'd be win-win for you.

Economy is about where i'd expect it. I used to be happy with 12L/100km in my r32. Clean afm and replace the o2 sensor as zei has stated. I wouldn't worry about the injectors.

I will get stuck into checking those things after Bathurst :D Thanks for the advice. When I talk about fuel economy it is just looking for the basics which you have stated to try and save a few $$ here and there. Cheers guys.

The O2 sensor is the usual cause of poor fuel economy.

They only last 80-100,000km
