Post subject:  Retractor motor stuffed?

Hi..i'm new here..new to nissans too.. Will be posting up pictures when i have a bit more time..

I've got a problem though.. when i turn on the lights it pops up..but when i turn them off they don't retract back down...i've checked the fuse box and everything still seems fine.

no too much of a serious problem..but it's very inconvenient having to pop the hood and manually winding them down!

all suggestions appreciated..i've tried fixing it..but my knowledge isn't that great when i comes to mechanics and wiring of cars....

Hey,
Welcome to Silvia NSW.
Now this sounds like a really obvious and dumb solution....
BUT have you checked if the button to keep the lights up is pushed?
It's near the steering wheel on the right hand side IIRC.

Just check that first before doing any more digging.

check that the previous owner hasnt installed a ghetto sleepy eye mod. Mine has this, when you turn the lights off they dont go down unless you hold down a switch, if you dont hold it long enough it doesnt go all the way down.

I think this switch has been placed in line with the power to the motors so that the circuit is interupted unless the button is pushed

That is completely ghetto.
I love it.

I had never even thought that people were that cheap :P

That actually sounds like something that should be checked.

I had another thought.
Get your multimeter and check if power is actually going to the motor when you turn off the lights...

Thanks for the replies. That got me thinking..it has a pivot controller from when i bought the car..do you think it's because it's not wired properly or anything like that? i'll have a look in the morning tomorrow and keep you guys posted..

Remove the indicator/light stalk from your steering column and on the end you will see a see through box with contacts in it open it up and clean it out you might have to bend the contacts back a bit so there's no connection in the off position just trial and error till you get it working same thing happened to me
