I had this exact same problem. I also have a CA18DET Auto stock 180SX. The problem arose for me when I changed the spark plugs (set at 0.8mm). It turns out that the old spark plugs were set at 1.1mm so I set the new plugs to 1.1mm and that pixed the problem completely. Guess it changed the ignition timing or something.

Have you had the problem the entire time you've had the car?
Also, what is your fuel economy, as mine is crap, and I need a benchmark to work off.

Cheers

Jay

dosnt change the timing but it makes it harder to burn fuel unless the engine is up in rpm

try adjusting the idle control valve after checking all of the mentioned stuff above. In the SR's there is a small screw that just turns either clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the idel level. Un wind it and give it a bit of a clean too. Some carbon deposit shit may build up in it. In the SR's its mounted on a box under the injector rails. But definetly check for leaks in the vacum lines and ic piping first. Tighten all the clamps etc.

Just out of curiosity GTiRboy... what fuel economy are you getting out of your ride??? I'm asking as I have the same spec'd car as you, with similar problems, and only get 280-300km out of a tank... :(

OK people, it seems that its not just one person with a fuel problem who owns a CA18DET. I myself have this problem... so if anyone out there has had this problem before, (it could very well be a common weak part that is causing the problem for all of us) we need to know! :D :D :D

Cheers for any info given

I now know of atleast a dozen people with fuel economy like this and mine (CA18DET Auto), does anyone have a CA18DET with better fuel economy than 350kms per tank?

I've heard you are a rare and endangered bunch :D

Are you guys using normal unleaded or premium ?

I used to have a auto ca18det 180sx, and was able to do average of 350kms on average, but closer to 380kms on cold night drivings.

And it had blown gaskets. I was told, once that was fixed it would have done a better job with the distance.

By the way, I used BP Premium unleaded.
