I have 91 180sx and looking at upgrading the brakes before i start modifying the engine.
I have read up a little on the subject and people are saying that i have to go from the 4 stud to a 5 stud wheel.
Can anyone advise me on the parts i need to do the conversion and the approx cost?
Also any info about how hard it may be or info on how to do it would be great

Thanks

You should search, but,

FRONT

s14/s15 Front hubs and spindles -$400-$500
Either R33/s14/s15 balljoints at $30 each OR s14 Lcas (which increase track) -$100-$300 a pair.

s14/s15 r32/r33 /z32 front calipers- $100-$300 a pair+discs to match
(often you will get discs and calipers at the same time and save $$) Theres some floating around for $250.

REAR
rear hubs s14/s15/r32 z32 NA -$100-150

s14/15 rear discs- $40 2nd hand to $120 a pair (new)

s13 sr20det rear caliper is as close as makes no difference to s14/15 ones. If you have ca rears you can grab s15 calipers for probably $30 each? If you want to use r32/33 z32 gear on the rear you will need the handbrake assmebly, including drums and cables. Its a bit more of a PITA to find and install.

Total that, + installation (or have a go yourself, its not that difficult) and theres your price for 5 stud.

Alternatively, just use any of the above discs and callipers and just redril the disc to 4 stud.

However, if your Brake Master Cylinder is any smaller than a BM44 most people reckon you should upgrade that as well to a larger item.

Although If you are on a real budget, there were some r33na 2pot front callipers+discs FS on NS.com. They retain 4 stud.

For instructions, best search, I cbf detailing that on here. Cliffnotes are you need a 30mm and 36mm deep socket, a decent sized breaker bar and probably the better part of a weekend if youve never done it before, perhaps 3 hours or so if you have.

^^^

I am soon to be upgrading to R32 GTR fronts and I have opted to just get the discs redrilled to 4 stud. Should be a straight fit up - just got my braided lines for them to make things even easier.

Dude depends on what u gonna do with the car.

If it's for street or drift then try find good 4 stud wheels... then just get s14/s15 front brakes with re-drilled rotors. U only need big brakes like R32 for track use. And if u end up going big r32 up front its a good idea to get r32/33 for rear to keep front/rear brake ratio it tact.

And in the end of the day better quality pads make huge difference.

how about

r33 na calipers and rotors (bolt up to s13's)
with 15x8.5 wheels in a 0 offset on front a slight flare with 15x10 on rear 0 offset with stock rear calipers + bolt on flares

should set u back about $300 for brakes and $2000 for wheels $250 for flares plus paint

i hope i'm am as unhelpful as everyone else
:P
