If you bought them from a wrecker chances are they could be the original Nissan belts, not the compliance seatbelts. (Check the tags to see if they are Nissan or Klippan)

If they are Nissan belts they need to be mounted right onto the car pointing diagonally to the roof to be able to retract.

IF they are Klippan belts they are mounted on a bracket to make the reel face the front windscreen. Basically they need to be mounted correctly to retract.

And make sure your car is on level ground.

Legally you shouldn't be able to buy second hand seatbelts anyway.

New aftermarket ones really aren't expensive.

i just bought a second hand pair. you mgiht be able to goto a spare parts store like autobarn, supercheap, repco, etc etc to get a brand new pair and replace them. company that makes it is called klippan.

I just bought new ones for my S14 through http://www.autolivaftermarket.com.au/ (ordered from my local Bursons store - Repco, Autobarn and Auto One also sell them I think- check website) they are the Klippan brand and cost around $100 each including new bracket.
