hey guys and girls! im new to the forum. just bought a 180sx SR20DE manual. came from a honda crv. personally the power seems roughly the same =\. well to begin with. theres couple problems with the car. i have no idea how to fix it. every time i shift gears from 1st to 2nd. it doesnt seem to go in smoothly. not only wen i drive but many of my other friends. (so i dont think its the way i shift) another problem the car has now is wen i drive theres a rattle in the engine bay and also a squeek. sounds like its the fan or the timing belt. im very noob lol. and now my lights. i replaced my reverse lights but it doesnt work still. was thinking it could be the fuse or the terminals not being clear, on top of that. my climate control doesnt light up even after replacing numerous light bulbs. =( my apologies for the life story. thankss for reading :D

regarding the reverse lights, theres a good chance the car was an auto when it was turbo, and while doing the SR20DE+manual conversion, they didnt rewire the reverse light plug off the gearbox.

Its a pretty simple job, so an auto elec could have it sorted within 30mins i'd imagine (youll need them working to pass rego).

I wouldnt pay any more than $100, but id be expecting less than that. Im no mechanic though, so I dont know how they'd charge. Go have a talk to a sparky youve heard is a fair, honest guy and see what he says :)

Have you got digital climate control or analog (slidey levers)? CA's didnt ever come with digital, so there could be something not quite perfect in the wiring conversion.

I'll leave engine bay noises to someone else, as im not confident in there. The gearbox could be sorted by running some decent quality oil

Do the numbers dim when you turn the lights on, or do they only come on then?

The screens' backlight should be bright with lights off, and buttons have no light. When you turn your lights on, the screen should dim, and the buttons' lights should come on.

Not true.
My reverse lights have not worked since i bought my s13 (about 4 years ago now) and have never been a problem when getting a pink slip. Mechanics have even told me they wont make it fail a pink slip so they're not just missing/ignoring it.

According to the cops and the RTA, they do.

Plus, it makes it easier to reverse at night...

Camping behind you, waiting for you to reverse? I once had a cop park behind me for 30mins, waiting for me to finish work so he could defect me. I watched him from the front window.. had to go face the music some time

you don't need reverse lights to pass rego. all your other lights must work however. there's nothing on the RTA's pink slip paperwork regarding reverse lights, but every other lamp on the car is covered.
I won't fail you if they don't work either.

It's still a good idea to have working brake lights.
