Post subject:  My not that new 180sx

Some of you have probably seen my new car in other threads and stuff since I like posting pics of it at any opportunity.
But nontheless here is a full thread about it instead! It's not much of a build up, I wanted to buy somthing that was 90-99% done for me (100% done doesn't exist :P) then just tweak it myself.
So I bought this, it's a 1992-1994 (EDIT: I looked it up, it's a 1996, yay!) 180sx (yeah I could never be bothered looking up which exact year it is) and it's a proven drifter.

If anyone is wondering my Silvia is layed up in storage right now awaiting my return at the end of 2008, this 180sx will likely come back to oz with me at that time as well :).

Current spec is:

Powah/cooling:
Redtop SR20DET with metal head gasket
IHI Turbo (about GT2530 sized)
Stainless manifold
Full 3" exhaust with open cat pipe (not to loud actually considering)
Z32 AFM
Nismo 555s
Remapped ECU
Front mount intercooler
Greddy oil cooler
Koyo radiator

Really it doesn't need anything else power wise, it's really strong on 0.9 bar as it is!

Handling/chassis:
CST Zero 1 coilovers
Cusco swaybars
Cusco castor rod mount brace
Tein castor rods
Cusco rear toe rods
Cusco rear upper arms
Unknown brand tunnel and rear chassis braces
7 point bolt in roll cage
Veilside strut braces
Nismo steering rack bushes (just fitted em, the old ones died)
Uras tie rods
Uras pineapples

This area is also pretty good, I'm going to set the rear of the car up a bit more with the camber/toe arms and that'll do it :)

Stopping:
R32 GTS Type M 4 pots
Project Mu D1 spec rear pads in stock calipers
All braided brake lines

No issues here :)

Driveline:
Short shift kit (which I don't like that much, the dildo gear knob makes it feel more normal though)
ORC Super single clutch/flywheel
Nismo 2 way LSD

No issues here either!

Interior:
Bride Brix (was broken when I bought the car but alot of bashing on the hinges with a hammer and some welding resurected it :))
Bride Xax
Stock dash (had an ugly pink/carbon/aqua one in it when i bought it)
Nardi Classic 33cm on a knock off hub (I like this combo, changed it from a shiney Boso looking wheel without the knock off hub)
Greddy 60mm electronic gauges, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, boost. I recently fitted these with a nice gauge pod to replace the ugly setup it had when I bought it.
Blitz SSBC boost controller
HKS Type 1 turbo timer

I'm pretty much finished inside the car now :)

Wheel/tyres:
Normal:
Imperi Genesis 17x8 +36 (+6 actual with 30mm spacer) Bridgestone Potenza GIII 215/45
Imperi Genesis 17x9 +36 (+6 actual with 30mm spacer) Bridegetone Potenza GIII (215/45)

Drift:
SSR Vienna 17x9 +32 (+7 actual with 25mm spacer)
SSR Vienna 17x8 +32 (+2 actual with 30mm spacer)

No complaints, except I'm out of tyres right now!

Exterior:
Vertex or somthing or other front bar
Unknown side skirts
Ganador mirrors
S15 blue respray
Fibreglass vented bonnet

This is the area I want to work on mostly with the car. On the shopping list are type X lights, type X rear pods, type X rear wing and if I break the side skirts and front bar replace them all with OEM plastic parts from the type X. I like OEM plastic alot (as anyone who has seen my Silvia will know :)). I've got no money right now though (literally $150 or so in the bank) bring on payday!

When I first saw it:

When I picked it up:

Test fitted my wheels:

Then had to lower it of course!

Brix is all good now

Interior changed to suit me

Packed up for Aki Matsuri at Ebisu

And drifting at Aki Matsuri, I had to remove the front bar to get out of the tunnel from the pits at Higashi course :(. So I drifted without it most of the time.

Wtf are you thinking with that gear knob?

Otherwise, I love it.

I was thinking this is a cool gearknob. My Silvia has one to haha. As a bonus it makes the quickshift not feel like shit and avoids me having to go and buy a stock gearstick to swap it with.

rear guards are lipped?

btw is it hard to find a place to park over there?

Author:  Nebuchernezzer [ Tue Dec 11, 2007 10:01 pm ]
Post subject:

Nah, rear guards were stock when I bought it, I rolled them when I put my wheels on and when I reset the rear camber to around 1 degree or so I'll probably lip them slightly then :).
Carparks aren't to hard to come accross, this one is about 30 seconds walk from my house :).

It's been a looong time since I updated this thread! I finally looked up the year of the car and it's actually a June 1996 build, either a middle model Type R or Type X (I'd say it's a Type R cos it has the lower spec normal AC). It's got seatbelt pretensioners and I believe it had an airbag wheel when it was new. It's a few months older than the kouki model that I've made it look like (they came out in October 1996) and I believe that the engine has a red top because it was rebuild in December 2003, it's probably not the original motor but I've not checked.

So picking up where I left off, this is around the start of 2008...

Did a wheel alignment especially to setup the rear end, 0 toe all round, 1.5 degrees camber on the rear and 2.5 on the front.
Image

Gauges that don't suck, new steering wheel, an OEM dash to replace the white/pink one, new vents etc.
Image
Image

Replaced the tail lights with kouki ones.
Image

Went drifting a few times but eventually smashed the front bar and bent the front guards (cos the bar pushed them, there was no bumper support in the car at the time, I've put one in now) at Fuji Speedway.
Image
Image

Flared the rear guards to suit the wheels betterer. Also bought a genuine kouki rear wing and side skirts.
Image

Got hold of a genuine kouki front bar and fitted that (it's just in base blue here, no clearcoat at that time)
Image

Did lots more drifting and ignored the body for a while. Then I boughta kouki bumper support (so that if i touched anything with the front bar it wouldn't pwn my front guards again) and bought some FRP front guards that were a little damaged but fitted really nicely for cheap.
Image
Image
Image

2 pak clearcoat is nice and shiney :).
Image

And of course my new gearknob
Image
Image

Copy front lip after painting (the only non genuine bodykit part, well ignoring the ganador mirrors and FRP bonnet).
Image

Something missing?
Image

Putting it all together
Image
Image

Done
Image

Installed some S14 lower control arms
Image

And just random photos of it. I've polished the front end since these shots so it looks shinier up front, I've also lowered the front a little since the drifting photos because I've gone to a 215/40 tyre up front and I have the clearance to get the front down an extra 15mm without scrubbing on anything.

Current wheel specs are 17x9 +6 rear with 215/45R17, and 17x9 +1 front with 215/40R17. I've had fun drifting it and it's been a super solid car for me, now that I've had it for a year I'm looking at sending it back to Oz as a personal import ASAP (hopefully someone wants to buy it) and getting a really beaten up heap of crap to go nuts with in my last few months here. I really want to be more aggressive in my driving so I want a crapper car to do it in.

If anyone is interested the car as is would be $13-14k delivered (as is, with about $9000 worth of bolt on parts) or I could take stuff off and reduce the price no worries (I'm considering converting the interior to fully stock kouki stuff, so it looks like a late model inside and out), it would only require a blue slip in NSW to comply/register it due to being a personal import. I'd provide all the paperwork.

And lastly some videos of it going dori dori,

current trend in japan. that one is a pretty conservative size actually.

I've seen a few you could probably unscrew and play baseball with.

It's quite an old style too, a friend of ours here has one that has a flower inside it that is about 20 years old. Old school.
