You need to get a car first, then worry about how to make it go fast.

Maybe you should look for something with the majority of the work already done

+1 buy a car with majority of the work done, starting from scratch is costly....

i wouldnt condone racing or high speed driving on mountains mainly for the fact that its an unsafe and uncontrolled environment, although that is not to say i havent done it once or twice before. ;)

ive owned a type r previous to the 180 i own now. so for this reason, i can relate to what you mean by the difference in driving feel between a type r and a nissan s series. straight out of the factory, the type r will always feel more race orientated mainly cause most of its R&D was focused more on track setup. that is not to say that the s series lacks the edge that the type r can offer on the track. the s series has excellent chassis and suspension layout but the factory supplied suspension isnt as track orientated as the type r, hence the illusion that the type r is a better track car. with a few mods, the s series's chassis layout and suspension engineering can be unleashed and its true potential is realised.

like most of the people have mention, tyres is one of the most important things in helping your car handle its best.

dont be thrown away with your "scary" experience, when or if you get your car...get to know how it handles and reacts and slowly do mods so you can feel the difference and as your car's handling gets better, your skills will grow with it too.

i like what the type r offers straight out of the factory, but you just cant beat a well tuned and balanced s series car. its just alot more fun! lol

thats my 2c anyway. :)

there are many factors you have to consider before understanding each car

NA and Turbo cars have to both be driven differently to maximize their potential, and also, more so with a RWD turbo car, not to get caught out when you hit boost. Throttle control is a must.

What suspension setup are both cars running? If both cars are stock, then the honda will probably be more stable through corners. However, a correctly set up s15 should be able to keep up, if not out perform.

What tyres were both cars running? yes tyres make a world of difference, and are the no.1 mod which people overlook for actually going faster around a corner.

and finally, driver skill. yes knowing what you are doing behind the wheel and knowing how hard to push it, as well as how much brains one person has, plays the most important part behind the wheel.

well Said "Mark" 8)

it all comes down to how well you can drive and how well your car is set up. if your scared of turbo charged cars then you shouldnt buy one.

No good putting all the right suspension gear and going out to buy shitty tyres.

FWD will understand alot soonner then RWD cars reason being is that when they apply brakes over high speeds the front tyres take more load causing wear.

Even in my R32 GTR i had both understeer and Oversteer depending on my throttle control and line which i decided to take the corner.

i use to go through National with a ECHO and kept up to R33 and S14 while cornering but on the straight it was bye bye, never to see them again until the end where they were waiting for me.

think about it dude, if your scared then don't do it your more likly to cause a Today tonite story.

Just go buy an old commodore, it will teach you a thing or two.
Once you learn how to drive get a good car, that way it will be one less wrecked 180SX on ebay.

Why dont you buy an R32 for circuit? Similar weight to a 180, but has a bit more torque. Might be able to get better power for circuit racing
Are you on drugs??? I keep looking but i never can find where the torque is hideing in a RB20 :P

like my RB25's,which is floating a little lower down.

and how are you able to get more power out of an RB20? the capacity is the same, yet the engine design is inferior, and there are significantly less supporting parts available for it. it's also heavier, and as has been mentioned ,makes essentially zero power before 5000rpm.

the chassis may be a little better rigidity-wise,but it's also a bigger car.

im not even on my fulls yet and i bought a 180 lol ...
it is a bit difficult to get used to FR ... if your coming from FF ..
it's when u think your tsuchiya thats you could end up in a bit of trouble ...
so if you do get your 180 ... just take it easy until you have confidence and the right environment .

what the other guys said was spot on .
