Apparently PFC is a lot more user friendly with Tuners easly found, but as for the Nistune, apparently its hard to find tuners?

how much power did you gain via Nistune and with what mods?

How many tuners do you need for 1 car?

You will get the same power increase using Nistune/PLMS as using powerfc or any other aftermarket ecu

hmmm... havnt delt with alot of ECUs and tunners it all comes down to the tunner.

it wont matter if you have a 5000 Motec or a 100 pigy back ecu. it all depends on how you want your car to drive, what you want to use your car for?

... i currently have a TOMEI ECU in my 180sx and it runs really well only thing is that no one can tune the bastard so im really stuck on how it was tunned over in Japan.

in my R32 GTR i had a HKS F-con Pro and once again only 2 workshops would tune it BD4's and Unique but no one did a superb job with it.

My uncle has an EVO 6 with a Apexi Dejetro installed, he firstly got CRD to tune the car..however the car drank too petrol for the amount of power it was producing.

220kw@AFW
420Nm@ 2800 Rpm Torque = CRD (drank too much petrol) **most likely used timming to gain power**

218kw@AFW
480Nm@ 2600 Rpm= JEM (was more efficient on petrol but after a few weeks engine kept cutting out)

222Kw @ AFW
620Nm @ 3000Rpm = Paul X tuner from ADVAN Performance ( can is running really well atm no problems since it was tunned yet)

as you can see it all depends on who tunes your car

The nistune software only costs $200 (+consult cable if you donthave access to one)... if the tuner you want to take your car to doesn't have it buy yourself a copy and load it onto a laptop.

I have a personal copy of the tuning software and it is very user friendly - dont know what people are complaining about on that front?

*Edit - While the earlier PLMS daughterboards are cheaper they require a romulator and associated hardware in order for realtime tuning to be possible - otherwise you are taking a test and burn approach, which would require you to have chip burners and the relevant software anyways :-?

It cost me $220 for the board and $200 for the software (i purchased directly from Nistune and PLMS). I did the installation of the daughterboard myself so that was free.

I setup the daughterboard with the standard tune (really straight forward) and made the adjustments for 740cc injectors and Z32afm.

Tuning went for approx 4 hours @ $120 an hour.

$220
$200
$480
-------
$900

But if you dont want the Nistune tuning software you can take away $200.

Power making wise i have 740cc Inj, Z32afm, gt2871r (.52 trim), std cams, fmic and other supporting mods.

215.4rwkw @ 16psi - will run more boost when i get cams in, we found when tuning that putting the boost up past 16psi didn't net any really decent gains (i.e. we figured the gains weren't worth the extra stress on the engine), put this down to the standard cams being a flow restirction.

As i said before i got my tune done by Mark @ MRC Dyno in Castle Hill.

I will post pics of the graph tomorrow.

4 hours to tune? Why so long?

Dr_Drift took 2 hours on my sil80 and the tune is flawless (up to 18psi)

I took 2 hours on my SR20 cefiro on unigroups dyno (up to 20psi), and the tune is 99%, but that remaining 1% is my fault not unigroups

I have been playing with the idea of PLMS, but i keep making the same decision. What if i put a new turbo / new zorst / new what ever, i would have to run around and find a tuner. Where PFC there is a few local guys that no them...

I guess it comes down to personal preference.
If you are happy to pay the extra for the Power FC to give you piece of mind in being able to take the car anywhere to get it tuned, then do it.
If you are willing to put the extra effort into getting a tuner for the PLMS/Nistune package, then you should do that

my car's set up

'97 180SX Type X

full 3" exhaust
HKS dump pipe
HKS pod
HKS SSQV
FMIC
Bosch 040
Greddy Profec B Spec II
GT28RS .86

194.1rwkw @ 14psi - Croydon

but im saving up for 740cc & Z32AFM so that i can get the Nistune or PFC tuned all in one hit.

ALL this set up and tuned right, would I hit 240rwkw? without cams?

Not likely. Your turbo will be a serious limitation here.

I reckon you'd be looking at about 210-215 without cams, or up to 230 with cams, both figures on about 17psi

pity its not available for the s15 yet, ill email them when im home to see if they have a time frame..

you tuning your own cars now anthony :)
ive been wanting to get into it, was even looking at buying one of those wideband kits they have some threads about on SAU. with the plms boards it now seems even easier since all the software and hardware is taken care of (once s15's are compat.)

you been getting any help from anyone with the tuning ? by the way how does the drift man stand up to CRD, because all i hear is 'crd is the best for sr20'.
