Got a few questions for anyone who has done this conversion (or similiar).

- Any issues with running the exhaust on the drivers side? does it hit steering or anything?

- Can you use the standard twin turbos or is a custom exhaust manifold needed?

- Any tunnel mods required to fit the manual box?

- Does anyone make the engine mounts for this conversion?

- Can you use the standard crossmember or do you need a R32 crossmember like the rb20 conversion?

Thanks guys, also if you have any other tips please add them.

cheers

P.S. Nissansilvia hasn't given me any useful information, hoping someone can through a few tips.

Cause I reckon the 1JZ are a better newer motor and they are alot cheaper, respond well to bolt on upgrades with no bottom end mods.

But I don't want to start a RB vs 1J argument, I'm just interested in how to do the conversion.

1JZ's are newer? they kept making them after the demise of the R34?
if you're talking what's readily available from wrecker's that may be the case, but both manufacturers went to V6's at pretty much the same time,so age isn't a valid reason.

they ARE stronger, and last a lot longer with light tune work, but I fail to see the reason behind the 1J-into-silvia swap, just like the RB swaps many people have done. but as you've said you don't want an arguement over it,I'll leave it at that.

Time is a valid reason, Why? What about the different series of RB engines there where then comparing it a 1JZ .

iirc Japan sold the Soarer till 2000 with the 1jz option, But by this time it was the generation 3 with a single turbo. So there not that older than the rb, but you also got to think ,RB vs 1jz what engine are you comparing? you can't really say that a rb20 is more reliable/powerful than a 1jz wouldnt you ?

NISSAN ENGINE FTW

SR20DET = Quick Response with Cheap Mods and Affordable

RB26DETT = Awsome Sounding Engine + Extreamly Quick Response + Very Expensive

if you want a TOYOTA ENGINE go for

2JZ vvt

the stock turbos hit the master cylinder, (the back turbo) the tunnel needs a bit of massaging to clear the gearbox, and the exhaust sits a bit lower then it would on the original side but nothing dramatic! theres no problem with steering rack or cross member but you need to get a front oil sump, theres middle sump and front sump, you need the front one. also a bigger front sway bar to clear the sump.
i make the conversion mounts for $480 engine mounts only. you need to get the gearbox one made. its a fair bit of work to get going but its a nice engine to drive lots of potential, and very tuff. hope that helps!!!

$240 each for "1jz into S13" custom mounts isnt that expensive compared to (for eg) nismo mounts (which are designed for the standard engine)..

plus, if you're doing a 1jz into an S13, ~$500 for engine mounts is the least of your concerns/costs...
